Could the weather yesterday be any better? Just a light wind and a mid 70's temperature made for a great day for golf. TTS finally showed signs of playing like he used to and had his best round of 2010 (even though he cursed his team on the backside). The same old bandits won, but not by much. The greens were rolling pretty good and the course has pretty well dried out from the heavy rains and is playing like we all want.
Now if we only play like we want life would be great. Twinkle Toes and TZ played their Old Pal match and got their heads handed to them. The most embarrassing part was only one of their opponents played. I think we need to have an intervention and explain to them the importance of being a JR/SR and playing up to their potential. You may not always win but 2 guys should be competitive.
Looks like the July 4TH party is on it's way to being a success. From what I'm hearing attendance is starting to get back to where it used to be. That's great for all of us. Plus the weather looks good for the weekend.
We had several close calls on the SOTD, but the pot continues to grow. We should be getting to serious "gas money" soon.
Since the course is closed for all intensive purposes on Wednesday I'll look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Time Passes Quickly
Wow, another 4Th of July is here. The best part is that we're all here and in one piece. We're expecting the wrecking crew for the weekend. This should be a lot of fun since the kids are a year older and into a lot more activities. I'm sure I'll be ready for a rest after their visit.
Not much to report on golf-wise since I only played once last week. But when I did play my ball striking was better. There is something to be said for a slower tempo. You make better contact and the length and accuracy goes up. We'll see if I can maintain it this week. There maybe a silver lining to this knee problem.
Bill S turned 80 last week and his brother was in town for the celebration. He took my spot on Saturday, shot 77 and lost. Not hard to figure that one out when you are playing against 2 skilled thieves like the Social Director and the Great White Hunter. I hope to get back in the game this weekend and give Bill S some hope and inspiration.
On the medical side I passed all my tests and the docs have given me clearance to proceed with the knee surgery. Now I'll see when I can schedule it.
Not sure how much is in the STD pot but believe we are in six figures again. See you at the training table Tuesday.
PS If you ever need someone to work on your garage door call EB&H sales on Dixie Highway. Good people and reasonably priced. Also Lavoy Appliance Service is good (got them through Appliance Center).

Summer Is Upon Us
Well it's Father's Day and that means Summer is officially around the calendar corner. Plus it is the last round of the US Open. Based on Saturday's play Sunday should be very interesting. I keep looking for Dr J in the background but haven't spotted him yet. One final thought - ABT.
Looks like BCC is in great shape. Eric is doing a great job with limited staff and budget. I know he's concerned about the weather turning too hot too quickly. That combination with all the moisture in the ground could create real problems with the turf. Keep your fingers crossed.
Talked with my embedded northern reporter. He said the group had a great time and Uncle Bob was the big winner (can't lose with LBB as your partner). Also there was something about Bill S winning the "cup". I'm not sure what that is about but there must be a good story there. Even Gilhooley wasn't caught "specking mop squeezers" and didn't lose at gin (much to Fred's relief). Also saw Steve S and he said they made it back from Russia without being thrown in the gulag. Kind of suprising since Jim E does look like an aging spy.
On a personal front I hope to have the knee surgery rescheduled after Tuesday. With a little luck I can be in good shape for the JR/SR Championship in August. There's lots of rust to be knocked off the game!

(K)need To Know
The knee felt pretty good yesterday so I decided to give it a try. Much to my surprise I made it around without incident and felt great afterwards. It was a little sore last night but icing made a big difference. I wish I could say my game was as good as the knee. It is amazing how quickly limited skills can diminish after a short layoff, especially the short game. But, there were moments of hope.
We had a nice little skins game. And, there was a first. TZ, who played really well the front nine, got caught by his own term. In fact I think he got Ziemed twice to take skins away. I'm not sure he is over the shock. Even TTS showed signs of his old self. Any way five skins among seven players wasn't bad.
Remember this is Invitational Week, but there is a rather small field so I'm not sure what the impact on the course will be. Check will the pro shop on the status of the course for member play.
I haven't had any direct reports from up north. I do know all arrived safely and Bill S hasn't walked through the screen door yet. I'm sure will eventually get a full report from our embedded reporter.

More Cameos
Since I'm still on IR and the GWH was absent there were two guest appearances this past weekend. and, as is becoming the norm one took most of the money. My sources tell me Uncle Bob had the hot hand. I heard Bill S grumbling guys with 21 handicaps being impossible to beat (what a surprise). I don't know how TZ played but heard he was in full undress mode on Thursday at #18. Seemed he had a "little trouble" with his tee ball and took 3 shots to reach the red markers. Those present said it wasn't a pretty sight (I can only imagine). Speaking of playing poorly Dr. J said he heard Steve F (of AZ. fame) was having trouble playing to a 19. When I heard that I thought there must be something wrong in the Cosmos and the force must be in reverse polarity. I know we are advancing in years but Steve F a 19!
Tim G hit the "Shake of the Day" for $73.00 on Thursday. We were due for a winner. At least he didn't take the who;e thing. I guess he rolled 4 of a kind on his first roll.
This is Member Guest week and there is a lot of activity going on around the club so check the schedule. Also a number of JR/SRS are up north at Bay Harbor for a few days. See ya lunch on Tuesday.

Shocked!!
I've seen more of doctors, nurses, technicians, and their facilities than I really care to think about. But, I suppose in the long run it is all for the best. Yesterday was hopefully the beginning of the end for some of this. I got to experience first hand the electrical cardioversion procedure. It certainly sounds ominous and I sure it could have serious ramifications. Anyway all went well and my my cardiologist was pleased with everything. Kudos to the Regional Heart Center at St. V's. They give you some great drugs because I don't remember a thing about the procedure. I thought they did a great job and was very pleased with my short 4 hour stay there. Now I if I can get the stress test out of the way maybe I can get to the knee surgery and get back to golf before the summer is too far gone.
Since the better half wouldn't let me do anything but sit when we came home I was reduced to watching you guys on #2 from my deck. After watching 3 groups I know understand why handicaps are on the rise. What a bunch of chops! Maybe the scores were better than it looked like. I wonder if a group lesson would be of a any benefit?
I'm not sure where the Shake of the Day pot stands. I haven't had any reports from Bill S (temporary custodian). Last I heard he was planning on renovations to his master bath and we all know the expense of that. Just ask TTS.
Planning on Happy Hour tonight and hope to see some of you there.

That Was Some Storm!!!
While watching TV last evening the screen went blank and a weather alert was broadcast indicating a tornado alert about the same time the local sirens went off. One look at the sky and I was convinced this was a serious storm coming through our area. Frankly, we had every thing set for a run to the basement, but decided to see what would happen. I can say without any hesitation we really "dodged a bullet" after seeing the storm path and the damage at Lake High School. This was really too close for comfort since St Rte 725 runs within a mile of our house. The lightning strikes were incredible and the rain really heavy. We were very lucky to say the least. Wonder if John W's airplane hangar suffered any damage?
Since I'm on IR I went to Germantown yesterday with the better half to help with the grand kids and see a couple baseball games. The nine year olds are starting to play with some skill, but the five year olds are clueless. Our daughter-in-law is PTO president and was running a big garage sale to raise money. Needless to say thunder storms rolled through and created havoc. This weather is really Jack Nicklaus's fault. If you will look back over the past decades you'll note the weather clears up after The Memorial Tournament at MVGC. If you look at next week's forecast you'll see fair weather moving in.
Understand my replacement for the Saturday game did himself proud and he and Bill S recovered some of what Bill lost the prior week. My sources tell me the Great White Hunter was unusually accurate with his wedges late in the round to help save some dignity for The Social Director and himself. I had planned to ride along with the better Half today and chip and putt, but last night's rain put a stop to that idea.
Off to one of the docs on Monday so maybe I can find out when we can move forward on the knee.
Don't forget the annual meeting today. I hear lots of rumors so it should be important that we all attend.

Memorial day Weekend
Well as Rush would say "there's another one in the can"; that's Memorial Day I'm referring to. True to form we had rain on Monday, but the rest of the weekend was pretty nice though a little warm. I'm not sure how much came down but it was pretty heavy for quite a while.
My knee scoping has been postponed pending another test. So I'll be around to see that things are running smoothly. Based on the phone call received from an unnamed JR/SR I probably should put someone in OJT for running the daily game. For your info Bill S is in charge of the Shake of the Day. I still have the money but will turn it over once the penny stocks are liquidated. Just kidding, but we are up to $131.00. There were a couple of near misses recently, but no winner since TTS.
Saw the Commish at dinner last evening and he expressed his frustration about a lot of things but primarily about the lack of players for the first Senior Inter Club at TCC this Friday. Come on guys let's get in there and call the pro shop. This is good deal for all of us and worthy of our participation.
