If I didn't know better I would have thought it was July instead of April last week. There were a couple of days it was down right hot. This week looks to be more like normal. In fact we now have freeze warnings. I'm sure all the plants are screwed up and don't know what season it is.
Since it was supposed to rain on Saturday we decided to play Friday afternoon. The course is still trying to dry out, but is very playable. Unfortunately our opponents haven't improved their overall games. Every once in a great while one of them shows shades of brilliance (especially when they have 2 strokes on a hole) and do something heroic. While our losses were minimal we were Shanged at least twice.
I was lounging around the hose on Saturday when the phone rang and the SD wanted to know why I wasn't ready to tee off. Since it wasn't raining he and the GWH thought it would be a good day for another match. Since Dr. AH was already there I decided to throw some golf duds on and head over for a quick round. We actually beat them like a rented mule on the front side but fell victim to to their boat load of strokes on the last 4 holes (and 2 Shangs) and lost $2. Since it is still early in the year I hope they understand "Pigs get fat and hogs get et".
Great basketball games in the Sweet Sixteen. I really thought Ohio Univ. was going to pull off the upset. I was even surprised by OSU and how well they played down the stretch to beat the Orange. The Final should really be fun. I'm still way behind in the family bracket pool, but looks like I'll beat the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Emma.
Looks like sweater weather this week as we get back to some normal temperatures for late March and early April.
See ya at the training table.

PS The Masters is almost here. Then the season really begins.

March Weather Madness
Can't believe I considered turning on our A/C this week. I resisted, but it was really close. The house was getting stuffy even with some windows open. It is really amazing to see how everything has greened up overnight. We really have some magnificent blooming trees around BCC.
I'm not used to playing golf this early and haven't made the adjustment to my daily schedule yet. I have managed to get in a couple of nine hole rounds and find I'm already in mid season form - can't hit it out of my shadow. There's a lot of rust on the game. I know it's the same with most of you. Others like Twinkle Toes and LTG are already knocking the pins down. If there is truly a golf god our handicaps will go up while theirs go down giving us a short term advantage.
Great basketball the last few days. Some real surprises: what happened to MSU? I did see history made the other night at the women's game at BGSU. The Baylor center (who is 6'8" and the #1 player in the country) made only the second dunk in tournament history. The best part it wasn't even difficult for her. As they say you can't teach 6"8".
Here's hoping the weather continues to hold. A little cooler with no rain would be great.

PS - The annual TDGA rules seminar will be on April 16 at HDCC. I think the time is 7PM, but you can check the web site.

It Didn't Take Long
No it didn't take long to get Shanged for the first time in 2012. We were surprised to have carts on Thursday and The SD, GWH, LTG and I decided to get in a quick nine holes. Sure enough on the 6th hole The SD proceeded to make a 5 for 3. The first Shang of the season took less than 9 holes. That's probably some kind of a record. I almost forgot. The SD made a 3 for 2 on number 4 to negate LTG's excellent birdie. Needless to say the other 7 holes he wasn't much of factor.
Friday saw us moving back to the club for lunch. A nice crowd showed up and we added to the pot for the SOTD since no one won. We did have a couple of close calls though. The course was really wet from the storms on Thursday night so most of us ruled out golf. But Twinkle Toes, LTG and JJ decided they would slog through 9 holes on foot. I'm sure they were covered in mud from head to foot by the time they were finished.
Saturday looked like another day of doing chores until I noted carts running down the rough. So after a couple of phone calls the GWH, The SD , Dr AH and I decided to get in a quick 9 holes before the late afternoon games in the NCAA. Sure enough our worthy opponents were up to their old tricks. Besides putting well the GWH is now hitting the ball straight and long (new clubs). They managed to win a couple of bucks. Ask them about food stamps the next time you see them.
Next time you're in the locker room check out the picture from the 2011 JR/SR Championship.
Our group continues to grow every year.
It was great to see everyone Friday night. I heard Greg say they had to turn away some dinners because we were full. That is a good problem to have.
Got to catch the mailman.

Still One Virgin Left
Try as hard as he could the GWH couldn't roll five of a kind in four rolls (let alone two) and still remains the only SOTD virgin. On the plus side the pot is back to triple digits. That was after eight of us contributed our pension money on Friday. There was so much excitement that I walked off and left the dice at Bar Louie's and had to go retrieve them on Saturday. Now if they could only find my gloves that I left a couple of weeks ago.
I was putting on #3 Sunday with Dr and Mrs. AH when who should show up but TZ. I guess he was in town to check on his office and catch up on paper work, but will be heading back to Florida shortly. He was looking fit after dropping 20 plus lbs.. He tried to tell us his golf game was still the same, but we weren't buying it. The real test will come in a couple of weeks.
The course is looking good. My guess is they will have to cut the greens in the near future. It felt like it was dry enough to have carts, but today's rain may set that back a few days. But, the club does reopen this week. Since we will be having lunch there on Friday it may be appropriate to have little putting competition at a minimum.
March Madness is here again. Based on some of the conference tournament results over the weekend it could be really interesting. Make sure you get your brackets filled out early because the tournament starts on Tuesday with the play-in games. I'm trying to figure out how to get our family pool up and running again. I seem to have misplaced all my notes from last year. That and being Internet challenged the family will probably vote in a new bracket manager.
Got to go. Type at you later.

Best Lunch Ever!!!
So exclaimed Twinkle Toes after he rolled five 6's (two rolls) to win $85 in the SOTD. He followed that up by saying he was no longer a virgin. That brought on howls of laughter from the shell shocked, assembled crowd. At least he didn't win the entire pot so we still a fair amount left in the pot.
The lunch conversation was lively among the six of us. Most of seemed to center around the up coming Super Tuesday. I don't think any minds were changed, but we're all still friends.
This week will be the last time we meet at Bar Louie's. After that we will be able to return to our normal table at the club. At least then I won't have to worry about bring the dice cup.
The SD, GWH and I are going to take a road trip to the Miles of Golf on Tuesday. The GWH wants to check out the facilities and maybe get fitted for a new driver. I'm not sure that will help, but he must have a lot of excess cash in pocket. The same goes for the SD, but it is an opportunity to see what's new this year.
No words of wisdom today.
