It's nobodies b-day, but the temperature. I'd normally say let's tee it up, but I think it would be a little wet. But, you can't really complain for the end of January. Later this week the temperature will drop to something more normal. Ugh!
Lots of people at the club last Friday. It was fun to see everyone and catch up after the holidays. There is another get-together set for next week. And don't forget lunch this Thursday.
Not much else going on. I've started organizing the info to do our tax return. That's always fun. I always say that I'm going to keep up with it through out the year and have done a decent job this year. Now I just need to go buy the update for the software and I can get the process started.
The 2013 BCC golf calendar is on the website. I don't remember the exact date but the JRSR Championship is a week earlier this year. The 8 round rule is still the law of the land. So all you guys who struggled last year keep that in mind.

That's A Big Pretzel
That was the reaction from LOA when they served his pretzel at lunch yesterday at the Hollywood Casino. It was large enough to serve the whole crowd and pretty tasty to boot. We had another good crowd for our weekly lunch. A couple of new faces ,but primarily the same old crew. If you have any interest in learning how to play any of the table games you may want to show up next week. we talked to the Restaurant Manger and he is going to work on arranging a demo for us on the various table games. We'll probably start with craps, but the majority will rule.
I hear they have a big crowd showing up for Happy Hour tonight. Considering the weather (our first real snow?) I'm sure most of us will be happy to get out of the house for a quick bite and conversation with our friends. January is quickly coming to a close and the weather has been mild, but I'm still feeling like I've got a little cabin fever.
I now have bionic eye #2. Everything went well, but I was a little more apprehensive the second time. The Doc told me that studies have shown that was a normal reaction. Frankly the procedure was much quicker this time. But, I seemed to have much more awareness of what was going on. I could actually feel the instruments this time. Plus the first day recovery was different. It has taken a little longer for the blurriness to clear up. Anyway I can't wait to test these new eyes on the golf course. I personally think the cataract(s) were the reason I lost distance off the tee. Nobody likes to hit it where you cant find or see it land. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

One Of Those Days
It's just one of those days. I tied to sign on to the club's new web site. Couldn't remember my pass word; couldn't find my pass word; tried to use the link to get it and couldn't. Then I tried to call the club to get it and got the auto attendant which told me the web site was under repair. Of course you can't talk to anyone since the place is supposed to be closed. So I just gave up and decided to write a new post to the JRSR Golf News. That didn't go very well either. After several false starts I finally was able to get on. So here goes.
The weather has really turned to winter. As always happens when it gets really cold things break. So it was with a water line on Ford Rd. It didn't effect me, but I heard that LTG had problems for a day or so. Then today when I talked to Dr. AH I learned his complex was suffering from a plugged sewer line. I don't know how that turned out, but didn't see any trucks there when I went out at lunch time.
We had another good crowd last week for the lunch at the casino. I guess we'll have another one this week. Also, this Friday is Happy Hour at the club. Hope to see many of you there.

I guess that sums it up.

No SOTD
Can you believe the Hollywood Casino wouldn't let us roll the bones in their sports bar after we had lunch last Thursday. I thought gambling was the reason they were there. Oh well we still had a good time (14 guys showed up). Based on the response of everyone present I'm sure we'll go back for another try (sans dice). I'm not sure how many stayed to partake of the games of chance, but I think Twinkle Toes was the only one "cashing out for color" at the black jack table. I know TTS and I left some change in the slots.
Crazy weather this weekend. If the rain Saturday night was snow we would be buried. The nurse and I had gone to G-town for a couple of basket ball games, but got back well before the rain started. It was so warm that the ducks seemed to be confused. I saw a couple of Buffle Heads on the lake Sunday morning. I don't know if they were late to migrate South or early to come back. There's plenty of geese around, but not many of the normal small birds that come into feed. I've even heard of robins still in the area. Today seems to be back to normal with the temperature dropping.
I read an interesting article on used golf balls. There's more money there than I thought. I'm going to calculate what I made have made over the years of scouring #2 for your errant shots. I'll publish my findings at a later date.

PS - Can you believe Denver and their pass defense?

Blowout
I was eagerly awaiting the golf tournament in Hawaii at Kapalua. I've played the course many times and have played in wind and rain. But, I've never seen anything like the trade winds they had over the weekend. I'm sure most of the pros hadn't either. You know it is strong when the ball blows off the tee (ask Matt Kuchar). I'll try watching again today to see if they can finally get a round in. If they can get 54 holes in it will be the first Tuesday finish I can ever remember.
Not much going on. We had a good lunch group on Thursday. Cabin Fever must have set in. I understand the SD will put the call out this week for the casino. Hope to see you there. There was a lot of discussion about going to one of the simulators for a winter round. That could prove interesting.
Big game tonight. I'm not a fan of either team, but hope the Irish can pull off the upset. There were also a lot of good games over the weekend with the pros. Did you notice all the rookie qb's playing? That has to be good for the NFL. Also heard the NHL got a labor agreement and may salvage some of their season. I guess that's important to some but not me.
Looks like a lot of new equipment coming out this year for you club junkies. Personally I can't hit what I've got (consistently) so I'll probably be a tire kicker. I don't think there are any magic beans out there, just a recycling of the same ideas. Funny how I just read the tips for seniors now.
Catch you later,

Same Old Eye
I went in and was fully prepped and ready to go for the second eye surgery yesterday AM, until my doctor and I decided it was too risky with me coughing at unexpected times. Something about the potential to go blind in one eye that grabbed my attention. So I packed up and came home and rescheduled for later in the month. Now If I get over this cold and regain my voice I'll be a happy camper again. I did enjoy the relaxation from the Valium for most of the day and got a nice nap.
I'm not the only one who seems to be laid low by the cold/flu bug. TTS had himself hauled off in a meat wagon to the E-room. I think he's OK but is suffering from a bout of pneumonia. I also heard LTG and the Mrs. were hit with the bug after to going to Colorado for the Holidays. I;m sure there are others but don't have any names to actually post.
On the bright side the PGA Tour kicks off today in Hawaii. Check the Golf Channel for broadcast times.
Always love to watch the play at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Can Spring be far off. Before you know it it will be Masters time. And, don't forget the days are getting longer (only wish we had some sun).
Remember lunch is today at Bar Louie's. Hope to see you there.
