The Nurse and I made the trek to Germantown over the weekend for the Rabbit Wrangler's basketball tournament game. This was quarter final game against one of the better teams in their league. At this point a little background info is in order. Coming into the tourney his team had only lost one regular season game, and were 16 and 1. They won the first tourney game comfortably, but you never know what will happen in these things. I have to admit this was one of the better games I've seen (including all levels). No one could gain an advantage and through three quarters the RW's team was down by 3 points. The other team was hot from 3 point range (remember this is the 6th grade). The coach went the press and the other team found themselves up against an 8-0 run; down 5 points and rattled. They went the 4th quarter without scoring until the last 30 seconds when they made a 3 pointer. The WR's team won by 9 and were on their way to the semis. They won the semifinal game yesterday and are in the finals on Wednesday. The WR has never been a big scorer but managed to get 7 points for his grandparent's benefit. This was after scoring 8 the night before. We're keeping our fingers crossed. This is from the same team that went 1 and 17 in 2012. It is amazing what difference a year makes (along with a growth spurt).
Nice crowd Friday at the club. Good food, especially the fish. A couple more weeks and we're back to a normal schedule. I think the pro shop opens Friday. Brad said he plans on coming to lunch on Thursday.
See ya,

PS - Did you see the snow at the PGA tournament in Arizona over the weekend? I thought they were in Pburg.

Old Friends
Some old friends stopped by lunch at the casino yesterday. LLB and his Mrs. were taking a break from babysitting a new grandchild and were having lunch. Also, Bill N was in town and came to lunch. Haven't seen him since the end of golf. We had a small group this week. People must be traveling. We still had lively conversation, but didn't solve any world problems. I found out there are a lot of us who watch Doutton Abbey (sp?). Had to stop LOA from spilling the beans on what is going on in season 4 since the Nurse and I watch it on DVD with friends after we have dinner. But, I did clear up a problem he was having with the storyline. We didn't break the casino this week, but I don't think they got any money from us either.
A nasty storm has been moving through the Midwest. Fortunately we are on the fringe and not getting hit too hard. Lots of icy conditions though. Hope the temps start to change. This time last year we were starting to play.
Happy hour tonight. Hope to see you there.

A Quick Nine
Since the 2013 season is fast approaching TTS decided it was time to head off to Tameron and the golf simulator. This was the first time for this year. In the past we have at least one round in by this time, but for some reason we hadn't gone this year. I think the casino was eating up his allowance and since he was a big winner last week he had a few extra bucks burning a hole in his pocket. Anyway I digress. We packed up our clubs and headed over yesterday AM and met up with JJ for a quick 9 holes on the Bay Harbor Preserve. All I'll say is we were all under 50. A little rusty to say the least.
Since we were close To Rudy's we headed there for lunch. TTS was the gracious host and bought lunch with his Rudy's gift card (they really do sell them). After lunch we headed back across the river for a nap. It doesn't get much better than coney dogs and golf. Throw in warm weather and it would be perfect.
Another Thursday is here and that means lunch at the casino. I'm sure we'll have a good crowd and maybe a few winners after lunch.

The Enclave
There weren't any mitered hats. But there were a lot of golf caps when the Enclave of JRSRs met for the weekly lunch. Most of the hackers were present to discuss the events of the day and partake of the fare at the Sports bar at the Hollywood Casino. The management wouldn't let us start any so there any signals to be seen by the public.
TTS made a dramatic entrance waving casino vouchers from the video poker machines. He some how managed to hit a couple of big hands for about $300. We thought he would buy lunch, but he declined our offer to let him. Personally I think he bought or borrowed the vouchers from someone on the casino floor. In the future we are going to demand a witness of his winning. The rest of us weren't as lucky and helped the casino defray their loss.
Being Valentine's Day we made sure everyone had covered themselves by buying cars, flowers, and etc.
I found some chocolate covered giant strawberries at Giant Eagle and added them to the flowers purchased the day before. I'm not sure it earned me any extra points, but it couldn't have hurt.
See ya next week,

Do You Have Your Card?
Remember tomorrow is Valentine's Day. If you don't have your card you could be risking serious reprecussions from someone very close to you. Another thought; flowers are another great idea. That took me a long time to understand. Never said I was very bright.
Don't forget lunch tomorrow at the Hollywood Casino. I'm not sure whether the SD is going to be there since he was planning on going to Detroit area for the annual celebration with his sweetie. But, he called this AM and said his plans were up in the air due to him being a bit under the weather.
Joke of the day - A gushy reporter told Phil Michelson, "You are spectacular; your name is synonmous with the game of golf. You really know your way around the course. What's your secret?" (Wait for it)
Michleson replied, "The holes are numbered."

Another Week
Seemed like a good title since not much is going on. We had a big crowd for lunch yesterday. So big I had a hard time counting without taking off my shoes and socks. I think there were 16 present, but I got a cramp in my toes before I could finish.
Dr J must think he's off triple secret probation. He wants to do the SOTD in the parking lot. I keep telling him to keep his jets cool. We'll be rolling the bones soon enough. Twinkle Toes and I scoped out some new dice for the upcoming season. It only seems right since there is a lot of new golf stuff coming out this year. We bought 5 of the retired craps dice from the casino. I've been doing some roll testing at home to insure they aren't loaded. Plus they are much larger than what we are currently using. The only thing I can see is they stack a little easier when rolled from the cup (a no roll). Plus they're are green rather than white.
Seems more people are taking advantage of the games of chance before and after lunch. TTS showed up waving a payout coupon (I think he deposited it back on his way to his car). Dr J. was seen buying a blackjack strategy card. Sleepy gave us a quick lesson on craps. And Twinkle Toes showed us what $100 looks like (three $5 chips). I know several deposits were made in the slots. Spring better get here quickly. Losing $5.00 is a lot cheaper.
Another Happy Hour tonight. There should be another big crowd. Hope to see you there.

Really, A Safety!!
The Nurse was sitting in the cat bird seat until "The Safety". That little move cost her a $100.00 in the Super Bowl pool we were in at the party we attended last night. And the really bad part was the winner ended up being OTR. Also, can you imagine the collective groan around the country? I wonder how much money changed hands? Makes you wonder if there was some shenanigans going on.
Now, how do you lose power in the middle of the game? I think Donald Trump had it right when he said it was really embarrassing for the country. It really is representative how the country is running right now. Just another SNAFU to add to the long list.
Congrats to Lefty. That was really a fun golf tournament to watch. The atmosphere at hole #16 must really be something. I'm glad to see the players take to it. Sometimes the game gets way too serious.

It Must Be The Snow
That's the only reason I can think of for the Internet being so slow this AM. It seems like it is taking forever for my computer to respond to my keystrokes.
Thursday saw another good sized crowd at the Hollywood Casino for lunch. It was Dr AH's turn to declare "that's a big pretzel." I think he had about 20% of it before passing it around the table. TTS made a quick exit. He insisted he had an appointment, but I really think he was trying to get to his favorite video poker machine. Twinkle Toes introduced me to his Playboy Bunny slots. I had no better luck with them, but the graphics were more interesting.
Dr. J this is for you. The February 2013 issue of Golf Magazine had an article on the used golf ball business. The main thrust of the article was on the dangers of diving in ponds in Florida. However there were some interesting facts on the size of the reclaimmation business, and the money to be made. It got me to thinking about all the balls I've pulled from #2. On a very conservative basis the balls I've found are worth $376.00 at salvage value, and probably well over $1000.00 at retail (that's over 8 seasons). Based on the increase in health care insurance I may have to rethink giving you guys the Pro 1s I don't want. Plus since I've given the majority of the balls away I probably have a sizable charitable contribution I haven't taken. Dr. AH and I may have to form an LLC to take full advantage of frequent strolls on #2.
Didn't you just love Phil M. at Scottsdale on Thursday and Friday. Such great play marred by two hiccups on the last hole each day. Sounds like all of us on #18. Can you believe how happy Callaway must be with him and their driver!? Sales will really be booming.
