Correction

I  was wrong yesterday about the number of tickets still available for the Super Bowl.  According to Drudge there are 18000 tickets still available.  Plus on the secondary market they aren't even getting face value for the tickets.  But, at least now they are predicting tolerable weather for the game.  Maybe they'll get a last minute rush.

We had a good crowd for lunch yesterday.  Even Dr J and JJ showed up.  Lots of discussion and maybe some of us even learned something.  That's not likely, but one can hope.  The Pilot is working on a golf simulator trip.  T Squared said it could be like a real trip if we all went out for dinner and stayed overnight at the Hampton Inn.  Personally I'd rather go some where warm, but to each is own.  Somebody else suggested we play a scramble.  TTS said he wasn't quite ready to play a full round yet, but I told him he could just chip and putt if he wanted.  I didn't think his one fingered salute was a necessary response.

More golf laws:

  1. If you want to hit a 7 iron as far as Tiger Woods, simply try to use it to lay up just short of a water hazard.
  2. You can hit a 2 acre fairway 10% of the time, and 2 inch branch 90% of the time.
  3. Every time a golfer makes a birdie , he must subsequently make a double or triple bogey to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe.  (the same is true if you lose 5 lbs, someone else must gain 5 lbs.)
See ya

Still Time To Get Tickets

According to Fox News this morning you can still get tickets to the Superbowl.  They said there were 24000 tickets still unsold.  If that's correct I wonder if the base price of  $2400 (for nose bled seats) is a factor.  Or maybe it's the frigid weather and an outdoor stadium.  Whatever you still have time to head for New Jersey and see the game.  Personally I happy staying in a warm house with plenty of munchies and beer where I can watch in my under ware if I want (the Nurse won't let me),

Thanks to LTG I'm going to start publishing the Laws of Golf in preparation of the 2014 season.  Here's the first couple (in reverse order):

  1. Don't buy a putter until you've had a chance to throw it
  2. Any ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours.
  3. There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands:  how many hands you have, and which one s wearing the glove.
Think about it.  See you at the away training table.

PS - I'm sure they said 24000 tickets although that's seems unrealistic.

Cheerleaders

Saturday I was flipping through the channels trying to find something of interest when I happened on the Big 10 Network and a wrestling met between Iowa and Minnesota.  From what I could glean from the announcers that this was a big dual met between two national powers in the sport.  Now I know that wrestling is a big deal in Iowa.  They have been a big power for many years.  Little did I know how serious Iowans are about the sport.  The first thing I noticed was the were seats were full (this was the basketball arena).  But what really caught my attention were the cheerleaders.  I wish I know what a wrestling cheer sounds like.  Maybe they spell out armbar or pin.

Sunday I had to break out the snow blower again.  The driveway was starting to get drifted over and I could see we were going to have problems if I didn't do something.  My normal approach is that God put it there and he'll take it away.  Personally, I think he's turned into a snowbird and is in the Keys enjoying the beach.  This weather better let up soon or I'm going to have to buy more gas.

We must be getting closer to spring since the PGA will be Phoenix this coming week.  I always enjoy watching the play at #16.  The beer concessions must be a real money maker.

Stay warm, and I hope you all can make lunch.

It Must Be Tough Duty!!!

At least this was the consensus from the lunch crowd yesterday after hearing Kennel Club had to wear a sweater to play golf on Wednesday.  I guess he doesn't know we need a dog sled and a couple of bear skins just to go to the mailbox at the end of the drive.  I thought things would start to improve but the last forecast sounded like we entering into another ice age.  One can only hope for an early Spring.

Seven of us braved the weather and met for lunch.  Not much new here.  We are all trying to make it thru the winter.  A lot of talk about simulators and the new equipment hitting the market.  Speaking of simulators.
Did you see the commercial for the new facility on Airport Hwy?  Our own Tinkle Toes is one of the stars.  Watch it closely and you will see the back of his shinny head and a beer in his hand.  I haven't suffered enough cabin fever yet to make me want to haul the clubs out and hit balls in to a screen, but I'm close.

Did you know "cow pies" (think goose poop) are a movable obstruction.  No you are not entitled to get relief and move your ball.  Plus you would incur a one stroke penalty if you move your ball while trying to remove the obstruction.  YUCK!!

Da Deer

Have you ever noticed that deer have a unique way of teasing hunters?  The other day I was at the GWH's house and he showed a young buck that was bedded down in the trees behind his home.  This wasn't a large buck, but it was brave enough to be an easy target from his patio.  He also has a a much larger buck that parades around his yard teasing him.  Then when he goes hunting out west or in Michigan he very seldom has a siting in range.

I bring this all up because I mentioned to him we hadn't seen any deer in our back yard all winter.  Normally at this time of the new year we have nightly visitors around 10 PM.  This seems to coincide with the food supply diminishing.  Well last night the Nurse called out that a large herd had just raced across our yard (about 10:15 PM).  A few moments later they all returned and were looking like they were lost.  I thought the bird feeders were about to be emptied, but they just milled around.  After about five minutes they decided to trek across the frozen lake towards #2 green.  It was really quite a sight to see 9 deer walking single file and totally exposed.  They make quite a contrast against the snow.

The weather is turning frigid again.  Stay warm and safe.  See ya at the winter training table.

PS - Dave B told us recently the deer were walking around on his patio.  I'm suprised they didn't ring the bell and asked to be let in to warm up.

Winter

Yes it is still here as are many of us.  Some of the smart ones have gone to warmer places for a few weeks.
The SD is getting ready to leave for Sea Ranch;  Dr. AH left for Florida for a few weeks;  and Gilhooley is probably in Arizona by now.  But with all those leaving we still had a big crowd at lunch yesterday.  T Squared drove himself and didn't use his walker/cane for assistance.  I think he's really doing well for having surgery three weeks ago.  TTS was there and pretty much his ornery self.  The rest of us were in a winter daze.

I hope everyone enjoyed the snow dusting we got yesterday.  It certainly screwed up traffic.  It took me an hour to get from west Central Ave. to my house.  This is really getting tiresome.  At least my mailbox is still standing.

Think Spring.

Credit When Due

I'll give the Perrysburg Township credit for fixing my mailbox.  I didn't even complain about it.  They must have a program to do so that we don't know about.  I actually thought it was one of my many friends who always complained about the duct tape I've used in previous years (OTR and TTS),  But Mrs. OTR observed the Township workers (four of them) working on it as she was driving past our house.  I have to say they did a pretty good job too.  I'm hoping it makes it through the winter.  I have a new one waiting in the garage and was just waiting on decent weather.

T Squared showed up for lunch at the casino on Thursday (walker and all).  I have to say he is doing really well and is probably ahead of schedule for recovery.  He even went to the UT basketball game the other day.

Lunch was well attended again.  Even our pros were there.  Both were getting ready to travel to Florida for some tournament golf and the annual PGA Show.  I got there late due to a big tie up on I75 NB.  I spent an hour trying to get from the turnpike to Miami St.  I got boxed in and couldn't get off at Buck Rd.  I won't make that mistake again.  It seems like we are having an increase in accidents on the local expressways.  I know the truck traffic is really heavy on I75 in both directions.

You Know It's Cold

You know it's cold when:
  1. When they declare a level 3 snow emergency in all of Northwest Ohio.
  2. The lake on No. 2 looks like the North Pole with drifting blowing snow.
  3. The wine you stick in the snow on the deck to chill freezes solid.
  4. When the Nurse doesn't want to go get her nails done.
  5. And finally.  You know it's cold when they close the Casino for the second time in three days.
The snow plow finally finished the mailbox off.  The box is laying on its' side in a drift and the post is splintered.  Fortunately I have a new one ready to install, but can't get to the old one because of the snow and cold.  Of course the USPS won't deliver without a box so currently we have to go to the post office to get the bills and junk mail,  but since we aren't supposed to be on the roads ....  Don't you just love winter!?

The final insult in all this was watching them play golf in Hawaii at Kapalua.  Plus they have been advertising the Masters.  This is going on while I'm still trying to put all the Christmas decorations away.

Hope to see you Thursday at lunch.

Happy New Year!

Well 2014 has started out just like 2013 ended.  Cold and snowy.  The SD called a meeting yesterday at the casino and surprisingly four brave souls, or guys with cabin fever joined him at noon.  Due to the weather the food service at the casino was limited to the snack bar, but the hot dogs were pretty good.  Besides myself Kennel Club, Twinkle Toes and Law. of Arabia were in attendance.  In retrospect I'm glad we only had to drive to the casino because the roads weren't that good.  After lunch I drove to Best Buy and almost wished I'd waited until today.  The only reason I went to BB was exchange my unfit Fit Bit.  I thought it was the battery, but now I'm not sure.  It doesn't want to connect to my phone.  I'm going to try to connect to the computer before attempting to take it back.  Note - The Nurse's Fit Bit is quite fit and likes to interact with her computer.  Trying to get fit is a bit of a pain and is giving me fits.

I guess I'll attempt to clear the driveway again today.  It seems like the wind tried to blow the snow back on last night.  Plus I heard we may have another storm on Sunday.  We're just into winter and I'm already tired of this.  If this keeps up I may nave to break out the long underwear.  I haven't done that in a long time.

How about those Sooners?  They really put a beat down on Alabama.  Now let's hope the Buckeyes can do the same tonight.  The Sooners probably cost me any remote chance I had of finishing in the money in the bowl pool.  Oh well, it was worth the entertainment.
