Figuratively that is. We went to G-town for Miss Emma's birthday on Friday so I wasn't present at the training table. I imagine the conversation was lively as usual but I didn't receive any reports. It's nice to see sunny skies this AM. while we still have ice on the lake I expect we'll see some open water soon. I spotted the two golf balls I hit out there last week, and one looked like it had been moved farther East. Must be the wind. LTG told me he had done some fishing on 16 and has already caught a couple of nice bass. I'm sure they're hungry after a long winter. Reports from the ground's crew is the course held up well.
But, the frost is still down about 20 inches. As long as we don't get a super fast thaw and a lot of rain we could be out in carts soon. Remember the Masters is two weeks away.
I think I'll take a little walk this afternoon with a couple of clubs and see if I still remember how to swing. But, there is still a lot of NCAA b-ball to watch today. The games have been really good this week and I don't expect today to be different. The Nurse looks like she is going to run away with our family pool. She pretty much picked blindly. Maybe I'll try that the next time. Certainly my analysis hasn't worked.

Sadly Another Passing
I am sorry to report another member of the BCC family has passed away. Jim Chandler passed away yesterday afternoon. He had been in failing health for sometime. While not a member of the JR/SRS he was a member of the PGGA and part of the old guard of the club. I know we will all miss his smiling face around the grill room.

Getting The Itch
With a break in the weather, which has been long overdue, I finally had the urge to play golf. Now I know the course isn't ready but there is nothing to stop me from hitting a couple of balls from the yard into the lake. Well actually hitting them onto the ice. That has been a ritual of mine every year since moving here. The fun part is then trying to find them on the ice with binoculars. True to form I hit two shots which are typically some of my best for the season. I saw and heard them land but didn't think I'd find them since the ice surface is a little soft. It took a while but I finally located one, but am still searching for the other.
March Madness has been truly mad. The Nurse and I entered a survivor pool (fund raiser for youth baseball for the grand kids). The object is you pick one game a day and if your team wins you advance. If they lose you're eliminated. plus you can't use that team again. We both picked OSU since we didn't think they would advance beyond the first day since they would probably play Syracuse in the second round. Shows how smart we are. I didn't feel too bad though about half the field did the same thing, and another 20% picked Cincinnati (this is a Dayton area pool). This puts new meaning to "one and done". But, in the family pool I'm at least beating the grand kids (not by much though).
Big crowd at lunch. No SOTD winners. TTS finally got the Golf Channel after switching to ATT. I/m not sure he's mastered the new system yet, but that takes time. Silk was in town, but i didn't get chance to talk with him or to the LR Dr. for that matter.
Yak at ya later,

A Good Problem To Have
Upon arriving at the Club yesterday for our first lunch of the season I found it difficult to find a parking space that was close to the front of the lot. Normally I wouldn't think too much of it, but remember this was the first day we had resumed lunch service. Upon entering the clubhouse I encountered a large group of women who had taken over the dinning room. I'm not sure who they were but I hope they come back often.
We had a big group for lunch. I think the big attraction was the SOTD. We had a couple of close calls, but no winners. After I explained the game to Denny C. (a new member) he proceeded to roll four fives on his first attempt. Fortunately the next roll wasn't a winner, but it would have been something to win on your first time playing. I'm not certain but I think that happened a couple of years ago. Anyway we added $10.00 to the pot.
Did you notice they shoveled the greens just prior to the last snow storm. Seemed strange until I talked with Eric. He said the grass can only tolerate so many days without O2. Since we had a couple inches of ice for the past couple of months there was concern we could be developing a problem. It was a good thing we had a warm snap prior to the storm. This snow should melt pretty quickly with the next few days of warm weather. Speaking of the storm. That was the toughest time I've had clearing the driveway. And thanks to the plow driver I had a nice 2 foot pile at the end of the drive. It took a good 1/2 hour to clear that one section.

Not Again!!!!
I'm glad I didn't put the snow blower away yet. I think we have about 6 inches in the driveway today. I was holding off until it stopped snowing before I started to clear it. The only reason I even considered doing it was the Nurse was having bridge at our house today. For some reason they decided not to play. Now I'm thinking of invoking the "God put it there and He'll take it away" theory since it's going to be back to 45 by Friday. However, I got a big frown from the Nurse when I mentioned that idea. So I guess I'll put on the parka later and get after it.
Remember lunch at the regular training table this week. I heard the casino management has already adjusted their earnings forecast for the remainder of the year when they heard from our waitress we were done for the year. Who knew we were so powerful or popular?! Remember we will roll the bones just not pull the lever (or press the button). We need to build the pot up again.

It's Official
The clubhouse has open for the season starting March 6 with lunch and dinner service. Due to high demand we continued to meet at the casino on Thursday for the last away lunch of the year. As always attendance was good and a great time was had by all. Our waitress was sorry to hear it was our last lunch until next winter and invited us to return anytime. I guess we must be good tippers. Thursday also saw the return of the SD from Caliiiifornia. He says his game is much improved from last year, but Dr. AH and I are skeptical of that claim. The Appraiser wanted to know if I really Irwined myself. So I spent a few moments retelling the story of how it happened.
What a great day today. A lot of ice melted, but we still have a lot to go. In fact the weather was so good I even got the car washed. I was really tired of looking at gray side panels. Speaking of cars, have you seen OTR's new wheels? Pretty cool. Can't wait to see it with the top down.
Think Spring!

The final golf law: No matter how bad your last shot was, you should have inner Peace knowing that a shittier one is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually a lifetime.
