Delayed Reaction

That's why it has taken so long to report JJ's winning the SOTD.  I was in shock that he could do again, even while on triple secret probation.  I knew some one was due, but was hoping that it might be anybody who hasn't won multiple times before.  Oh well I hope he enjoys that stack of 135 single dollar bills.  The rest of us shouldn't fret there is still $141.00 waiting to be won.

Not sure about who won at golf.  I was at the casino lunching with my father.  I only showed up to roll the bones, and make an unexpected payoff.  LOA was surprised that -8 didn't get a sniff.  He didn't really understand you need to be in double digits to have a chance.

It's hard to believe that Labor Day is here and college football started last night.  Where did the summer get to?  But, there is still plenty of golf left before the cold winds blow and the snow flies.

Have a great holiday and see you next week.

Getting Close

Since the SOTD pot is getting close to it's all time high the JRSR Executive Comm. engaged the auditing firm of Dewey, Cheatim & Howe to check my management skill of the fund, and to insure that the Hollywood Casino wasn't an authorized depository.  The fund was given a clean report, and I breathed a sigh of relief.  But, while I had them there I asked them to start a review of handicaps.  I was concerned after yesterdays game.  Three teams showed their handicaps were honest.  But one team was rather suspect.  In a 3BB of 4 format you wouldn't expect a double digit low score.  That's what we had though on a day when the other teams were much worse.  The audit results aren't back yet.  But, it was suggested that winning team be broken up in the future.  I won't name any names, but you bandits know who you are.

There's a good article in the latest issue of Golfweek  on fairway woods (or metals if you prefer).  It is required reading for all you gear heads.  One of the big points is that 5 and 7 woods are starting to reappear on the PGA Tour.

See ya,

Whew!!!

If you weren't there for Mars vs Venus you missed what could have been a history making event.  The Mars Team had things well in hand until the last Venus Team came in with a score of 55.  The best by far of any team in the field.  Kudos to Julie and Kate for playing so well.  Fortunately it wasn't enough to overcome the lead built up by the Mars Team.  The final total Mare 455 vs. Venus 457.  The Mars Team will have to be at it's best in 2015 if they expect to win.  The gals from Venus are really stoked to get after us.  I think everyone had a great time and the pig was gone by the end of the meal.  Plus we had a great turnout, with a good mix of old and new members.   I believe we have one more mixed event left on the calendar and we we get a great turnout for that one also.

A Different Saturday

With the SD and Dr AH on injured reserve and the GWH working at his golf course I had to scramble for replacements.  TZ and LTG volunteered and we tee it up in the shotgun.  It was the first time in awhile since I was able to have lunch, get a nice nap and be hungry for dinner at a normal hour.  I taught my two playing partners how to play baseball and only lost $1.00 in the process.  LTG caught on pretty quickly and came out the big winner.  Of course it might have something to do with his superior playing ability.  TZ really hit the ball well off the tee, but struggled with his chipping.  The on course lessons we gave him helped, but....  He said he's going to Florida to get his haircut Monday, but I really think he's going to go practice without the distraction of all us overloading him swing thoughts.

Check out Facebook and see the bobble head the FGG gave the Lr Dr..  It is really pretty cool and I'm sure he 's the first BCC to have one.  Don't ask me how to access Facebook.  The Nurse showed it to me since I'm social media shy.

See ya Tuesday,

Confusion

It's amazing how easily some of the captains of industry can get confused.  Due to a last minute addition to the group some adjustments had to be made on the fly.  Because we had 3 threesomes it was decided to count one player's ball twice (on a rotational basis) on every hole.  I heard about three different interpretations of that process.  The only reason it was even necessary was we playing net 3BB of 4.  I'm not really sure how everything shook out since the GWH and I had to leave for a Green Comm. meeting.   I left OTR to ajudgicate any disputes.  All I know we weren't in the money due to erratic play.  You know you're in trouble when the GWH is the medalist on your front nine.  Plus to add to the confusion of having three teams instead of four the format was changed from winner take all to front back total.  I understand that created some carping, but the change was made to create fairness.  Oh well, herding cats is never easy.  Just ask the Commish.

Several scares with the SOTD, but no winner.  The pot continues to grow.

August Finally

The weather finally felt like August.  Yesterday was hot and humid.  Thank goodness there was slight breeze to help keep us halfway cool.  While there was only seven of us the competition was lively.  Due to the small field we used the format for the JRSR Championship.  TZ (fresh from a lesson) separated himself from the field, scored in the red numbers (net basis) and walked away with first place.  The rest of us were also rans.  LTG second and your humble correspondent third.

Don't forget to sign up for Mars vs. Venus this Sunday.  I know the Venus crowd is really gunning for us.  They think this will be the year they finally break through and grab the Pig Trophy from it pen in our locker room.  They have negotiate some format changes (primarily the use of the gold/silver tees) in an attempt to level the playing field.  We'll see.  Still the tournament is good fun and the pig roast afterward is looked forward to by all.

See ya at the training table.

Road Work

We were having lunch when T squared rolled in (no pun intended) resplendent in his fluorescent orange shirt. OTR, without hesitating said he looked like a construction barrel and wondered which project he had escaped from (I75 or I475).  Now mind earlier in the week he wore a shirt that looked like he was part of some road crew.  That day we accused him of moonlighting on the side for extra cash.  No matter how he dressed it didn't help his team win any money.  But, he did win the award for the brightest clothes.

Speaking of money.  We had some pretty stiff competition this past week.  The teams seemed to play either really well or really poorly.  Everyone is finding out that when you have to count three balls it is a whole different ball game.  But, at the end of the day we'll all be tournament ready.  The JRSR Championship is fast approaching, and I know we all want a shot at getting our name on the trophy.  I'm working on the list of those who need a few more rounds to qualify and should have it ready by Tuesday.  Most of you are safe, but a few people are on the cusp for having enough rounds in.

The SOTD pot continues to grow.  We've had a couple of close calls, but no winners since SS a couple weeks ago.

If you missed Name That Tune Saturday night you missed a really good time.  Not to worry there will be another opportunity in November.  Plan on being there.  The competition will be tough.  I suggest you recruit any DJ wanna be's for your team.  And, start listening to the radio (an oldies station) instead of watching Fox News all the time.

See ya at the training table.

Every Time

Every time we get the course dried out and running fast the monsoons roll in and deluge the course with 3-4 inches of rain. Never fails. At least this time it wasn't as wet as I thought it would be. Although there was water in some cups you wouldn't expect, like #14. Putting was quite an adjustment from the weekend. I don't think I ever quite adjusted. Only one three putt, but I couldn't get the ball to the hole (like most of my teammates). It didn't seem to bother LTG much since he carded a nice smooth 76. But, he didn't have much support and we locked up second in a two team match. Not much going on. The weather looks great for the rest of the week. I noticed we have Senior Interclub this week at SOCC. I'm sure we'll make a good showing. Teamwise we have been on a roll in recent times. See ya at the traing table. CC

Lots Of Golf

That's what we had over the last weekend.  First the club championship matches.  You needed a PhD in problem solving to understand the score board.  Saying that, the really notable thing was the scores.  Seems we all struggled a bit to say the least.  The greens and pin positions were a cahallenge. You sometimes don't really want what you wish for.  I know in my group we barely had enough fingers and toes to keep track of scores on a couple of holes.  We even had a couple of interesting rules infractions (see me).  Contrats to all those who won.

What fun it was to watch the PGA.  No matter who you rooted for you had plenty to cheer about.  A bit of a strange finish, but I don't think the results would have changed.  I think we witnessed a new era in golf emerging.  Can't wait to listen to all the talk about whether Tiger should be on the Ryder Cup team.

Next big event is the Mars vs. Venus.  Then the highlight of the year - The JRSR Championship.  We will crown a new gross champion in 2014.  The Lr Dr. won't be playing because he will be in California for the birth of twin grandchildren.  So all you big hitters get your games in order.  Remember you need 10 rounds to qualify.  Most are safe but a few of you are on the bubble.

See ya at the training table.

Catching Up

I'm finally able to catch up with what's been happening this week.  We had router problems at the house and that lead to a lack of Internet connectivity which lead to no blog.  Things are back on track now.  I have to give Buckeye credit.  They replaced my router with theirs (because of the Gateway system) at no charge, plus corrected a number of other problems i encounter with hooking up the new digital boxes.

Golf has been fun this week (for me at least) since I was on the winning team both Tuesday and Thursday.  In preparation for Championship Week I choose a format where basically all balls counted.  Based on the moaning, complaining, cursing and general grousing you would have thought I committed high crimes and misdemeanors.  I thought everyone would embrace the toughness and welcome the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming challenge this weekend.  Boy was I wrong.  I guess the $5.00 is a bigger deal than the entertainment value from playing in our group.  Anyway my bank account is looking better than it did on Monday.  Actually I think I just recovered some of my own money which was lost earlier.

The SOTD is reaching the $200.00 mark again.  The LR Dr. made his annual contribution and swore never to play again.  He says he is the only person in the club who hasn't won.  I told him things might be different if he would only follow the motra of "keep the fives".  It has worked for others (on rare occasion).

I know there is a great deal of confusion over the club championship format.  It's another example of the "no good idea goes unpunished".  In an effort to create enthusiasm.....  Brad has promised to review the situation and I think next year we'll be back to the way we used to do it for the seniors.  And, remember we do have the JRSR Championship coming up which has been our major.

Speaking of important golf tournaments the Mars vs. Venus is fast approaching.  Look on the bulletin boards, email notices and etc. for details.  The Mars team has never lost and we don't want a different result in 2014.  The Pig Roast will be open the entire club so everyone can enjoy our celebration.

Gotta go take the trash out,

Cake Eaters

It seems like I remember that term from a movie or a book I once read.  Anyway that's what we all were Thursday at lunch when said goodbye to Dick G (aka The Grocer) on his last day before packing and moving to Florida for good.  He had the great fortune of selling his house quickly, but had to give immediate position.  Since he already had a place in Naples he decided to make the move and get out of Dodge.  KC thought it only appropriate we have cake and ice cream to send him off.  So we did (chocolate cake).  So good luck Dick and write when you get work (my grand mother always told me that).

As far as the golf went Thursday it was lucrative for three JRSRs.  That's how many skins were out there.  Worth $20.00 apiece and some extra money for the barkeep.  No SOTD winners and the pot is creeping back up there.

I have a whole backyard full of water but can't drink any of it.  I was fortunate enough to get the few bottles that Kroger had before they ran out at 6:30 AM yesterday (it's a long story).  Hope this "crisis" ends soon.  This is a real negative economic impact on a lot of people.  If you want a good chuckle watch one of the mayor's news conferences and pay attention to the women signing his comments.  Just watch her facial expressions and listen to him.  She's a hoot!
