A Fitting End

Yesterday was basically the end of the official JR/SR season since we don't normally play on Friday and handicap posting is finished for 2014 on October 31.  So it seemed fitting for one final, rousing round.  Surprisingly we had ten players eager to tee it up.  Not so surprising was the final result.  Dennis C's crew played the best and won two parts of the FBT format.  The other two teams tied for second with the exact same score.  After going five, yes five, scorecard playoff holes LTG's team lost the front.  It seems like that pretty well sums up my season;  always a little short.

LTG had one of the great comments of the year.  After stripping his tee shot down the middle on #16 with a three wood Twinkle Toes said that wasn't very aggressive.  Without hesitating LTG turns, looking at both of us, says "I can't afford a bogey".  He swears that wasn't commentary on his teammates, but we're not so sure.

It is doubtful there will be much golf over the weekend,  but next week shows some promise.  So, Silly Season will commence.  It's time to have a little fun!

LTG's Lament

Every other hole yesterday LTG was heard to exclaim "he's killing me".  The reference was to TZ who kept using his numerous strokes to great advantage and take skins away from LTG.  Actually the rest of us appreciated his effort ( to a point).  It kept us in the game and helped spread the money around.  At the end of the day most of us kept our losses to a minimum.  Actually we won't be able to depend again on TZ until next Spring.  Yesterday was his last round at BCC until he returns from Florida.  Most of the other snow birds had already left, but TZ was delayed for some reason.  Now we are down to a few hearty players who are adept at bundling up and swinging wearing multiple layers.

Sunny today, but cold.  I'm accepting bids from those interested in riding with the heater.

Not Much To Say

There really wasn't much going on yesterday.  The weather was marginal and a limited number showed up.  I had a luncheon meeting and was a no show.  I did drop by later and caught the ones who toughed it out and finished.  After we rolled the bones everyone scattered to the four coroner's of Perrysburg.  No winners, only contributors.  Skins were not worth much and I had to take an advisory role on the distribution of funds.

The sun is out, but it is cool.  We'll see if this is a play day.

You're Not Serious

That was the reaction when the team of Gilhooley, JJ, Dennis C and TZ posted a score of -26 Thursday.  That was better than the sum of the other tree teams.  They swear it was correct but the rest of us were skeptical.  Personally I think they used some kind of magic multiplier.  Against our better judgement we paid them first place.  But, it will be a long time before they are allowed to play together.  The only good thing was the weather was fantastic and 14 showed up to play.  Too bad the course isn't open today since it will be summer like.

I couldn't play over the weekend since Miss Emma was in a soccer tournament in Sandusky.  She is on a travel team, and this was the wrap up for the season.  The Nurse insisted we go and support her.  I'd never seen so much soccer in one place before.  There were 20 fields full of kids in short pants running around kicking funny colored balls.  It was almost impossible to find a place to park.  Too make a long story short her team made it to the semi finals before bowing out.  Not bad for a team with a losing record.

We got to dog sit for two days.  This always cures me from wanting another dog.  I like the company, but they sure do control your life.  But at least they are always happy to see you when you come home.

The weather should be good for a few more days.  See ya at the training table.

A Rare Day

We caught a rare day for October.  Mild temps and no wind.  Too bad we our play couldn't take advantage of it.  Simply put we (as a group) couldn't hit a cow in the ... with a shovel.  I won't report on who, or how any money was won since it would rather embarrassing to all involved.  By the way what's with Dr. J?  He was on the range, warmed up and decided not to play.  The weather was far worse on the range than the course.  Besides we know he would've used the "leaf rule" to his advantage.  Today looks to be even better so I imagine the lunch table will be full.

I finally paid off the Appraiser (not all ones this time).  The SOTD is getting back into the territory where it is worth winning.  No one was even close yesterday.

I hope to make it to the course, but have to deal with a dead battery in the Nurse's car.  It's hard to believe it's bad since I just put a new one in last year.  My guess is something got left on by mistake.

See ya,

Lost Week

This past week was lost for golf due to primarily the weather, and some personal issues for yours truly.  So not much thought was given to golf.  Although I did manage to get in nine holes on Saturday with LTG.  We cut the round off at the turn so we could have lunch and then go watch the Buckeyes.  I did find out you're much warmer when you wear long underwear.  I don't know why I haven't worn it before since I have at least two sets.  But, I will say the new high tech, base layer kind is really good for golf.  There were a few other brave souls on Saturday, and even some tough guys wearing shorts.  I don't know what that was all about, but did hear something about no jeans on the course.

If you missed the Halloween Party you missed another good time.  The costumes are really getting better, and the karaoke entertainment was a hoot.  I think the Blues Brothers stole the night with their performance.  Twinkle Toes has some new competition.  There was even a special dedication to OTR;  something about trains and prison blues.  Also the staff really got into the spirit with their costumes and singing about their friends.

Has anyone seen the Appraiser?  I still have his measly winnings from the SOTD.

See ya at the training table,

CC

PS -  Just when you think the Browns are on the road to respectability they revert to their old self and "stink on ice".

Away For One Day....

I go away for one day and the Appraiser goes and wins the SOTD for a paltry $17.00.  If the amount wasn't so low he'd be on triple secret probation.  He even came out on his patio while I was on the 4th green Thursday and wanted to know where his money was.  I told he had to be present to win(or collect) and I'd see him later.  I still haven't caught up with him.

The weather has really been great for golf the last few days.  When the wind is down it's almost too warm for a sweater.  Starting Thursday I've played three out of four days.  Each day my scoring became a little more erratic.  Although Saturday was very profitable for Dr. AH and I.  The SD and the GWH finally cried uncle.  They finally came to the conclusion they needed "grease" to be more competitive.  We're still negotiating.

Today the Nurse and I played with Mr./Mrs. T2.  We had a little match with OTR's and the Gilhooley's.  The longer we played the worse we got and ended buying the drinks.  OTR really had it going on the backside until he played the last two holes in 4 over to shot 40.  Plus, he came close to hitting it OB (right) on #2.  I don't know how he managed that but he really surprised us when we came off of #3 tee.

The weather doesn't look good for Tuesday.  Keep your rain gear close.

Cold & Blustery

That's what the weekend was like.  It seems like late fall has come early.  We made it for nine holes on Saturday before deciding to come in and thaw out.  Sunday was a little better.   The Nurse and I played with Mr/Mrs OTR and made all 18 holes.  I have to admit that I needed to add another layer at the turn.  We had the cart heater cranked up all the way, which helped, but you really need a cover to be toastie warm.  Yesterday a few of us braved the dampness before the skies opened up.  Today I'm to play in the Chick Evans event at TCC and the weather looks to be much improved.  It may not get much above 60, but at least the sun is out.

Speaking of the sun.  Did you see the "blood moon" this AM?  Pretty cool and somewhat of a rare occurrence since we had a clear sky for viewing.  Frankly I would have missed it if it wasn't for hearing about the eclipse on Fox News at 6AM this morning.

Make sure you check out the drone photos from the JR/SR Championship.  Especially the last one ffeaturing Slap Shot.  The expression on every one's face is great.  Looked like something from the SyFy Channel.

See ya Thursday,

Tough Crowd

Yesterday saw 16 show up for an early October round.  I think most of us looked at the weather forecast and figured this could be the last good day for awhile.  Even though we got a little shower for a hole or so it was a pretty good day to play (what's with LTG's group?).  Since we all agreed we decided to putt everything out (greens weren't bad).  I played with OTR, The Dentist, and Silk.  We thought -18 was a pretty good score.  And, it was - for third place.  I think we were playing against some real bandits.

Based on what I'm seeing weather-wise I think I'll go buy some propane canisters for my cart heater.  A cold front is going to be moving through over the next few days.  Heard they were even talking snow in upper Minn. and Wisc..  Don't know about you but I don't like hearing that.

See ya,

A Winner!

Yes we had another SOTD winner.  The winner rolled 5 sixes in one roll for $125.00.  I think that is only the third time anyone has won in one roll.  Now the best part was I was the winner.  I can't remember the last time I won, but it was well over a year ago.  Anyway the Nurse told me to put the money in the Paris fund.  In case anyone is wondering I had the required number witnesses and a notarized statement authenticating the roll (LTG was present).  While the pot is depleted there is still money to be won.

The weather was iffy and the greens had been sanded.  So, we had a small field.  Field skins was the game of the day.  A total of six skins between four winners.  I even won money there.  The best day I've had in a long while.  Given some good weather the greens should be pretty good in a week.  They were a little goofy at times yesterday.

Off to see the Rabbit Wrangler play football today.  Hope to see y'all Thursday.
