When????

We are fast approaching the beginning of March and the first day of Spring.  The PGA Tour is starting it's Florida swing this week.  People are starting to ask when we will be able to tee it up for the first time.  That's a good question.  Consider this:

  1. It's still colder than $#@&^ (but could turn on a dime.)
  2. The frost is down about 30 inches and the ground won't thaw any time soon.
  3.  It gets really mushy when it starts to thaw which is usually accompanied by rain.
  4.  The wind starts to pick up in March and blows in from the lake to make it really seem colder.
So the answer is probably not anytime soon.  My guess is that we'll be lucky if we get a round in before the 1st of April.  For years I always planned on Good Friday as the first day to play and I think that's a good bet this year.

I did talk with Eric yesterday and he thinks the course will make it through without much damage.  The Snow cover is really a good thing and tends to protect the turf versus last year when we had all that ice which created real problems.

Think golf.

PS  Heard a rumor that ABE (remember him) got beat like a cheap drum on the golf course by his wife recently in Las Vegas.  What is the world coming to?

Biggest Yet

We had four foursomes for lunch on Thursday.  The Casino staff has really become efficient at serving us.  Now most of us are getting our bills before we get our food.  I'm not sure what they are trying to tell us with that kind of service.  Any way we had another bout of lively discussion with no solutions to any world problems.

Last night was another well attended Happy hour.  Lots of new faces.  I did meet one our new members who bought a house on number nine tee (a house which had been featured on HGTV's House Hunters).  They are a young couple with a couple of young boys.  Seems like the kind of member we're looking for.  Golfers with active kids.  Another 10 or 15 like that would be great.

Not much else new.  I'm finally starting to get over the respiratory flu.  What a pain this has been.

No Rabbits To Wrangle

The Rabbit Wrangler finds himself without any rabbits to wrangle for the upcoming year.  His breeding stock was getting long in the tooth and finally both went on to the great carrot patch in the sky.  Elvis was the last to go and passed away late last week.  It wasn't the cold but old age finally caught up with him.  If there was a rabbit obit it would have said he was preceded by his long time partner, Angle who passed away from natural causes during the Fall.  I don't know what natural causes are, but at least it sounds good.  At this point I don't think there are any plans to get back in the wrangling business any time soon.

I hope Elvis didn't catch what the Nurse and I have been fighting for the last week or so.  She got, and then passed to me, the respiratory cold (flu?) that's been going around.  It seems to have hit me harder than her.  Sleeping has been a problem.   Every time I lay down I start to cough.  I've very adapt at sleeping in the recliner covered  with a heavy blanket.  It's not as hard as it sounds since I've had a lot of practice watching the back of my eye lids while watching TV.  But I'm finally starting to make my way back to the bed for short periods of time.  I hope to be back to normal by the end of the week.

Last Thursday was another big day for the Lunch Group.  Seems like we get at least 12 people every week.  As always there was a lot of lively discussion and a lot seemed centered on golf.  People are starting to get the itch after all this cold weather.  I know OTR would rather see warmer weather.  I saw him over the weekend and know he had numerous problems because of the weather.  T Squared is always amazing me.  If you want to know how to put your cars in the garage you should talk to him.  I'm sure he 'd be glad to give you pointers (ask his wife).

Yak at ya later,

Friday Night

Happy  Hour looked like it was a big success.  Lots of faces I hadn't seen before.  Let's hope we see them again.  The bartenders were busier than one armed paper hangers.  Even the bad weather didn't dampen every one's spirits.  Fact was it was just plain good to see old friends enjoying themselves at the club.  By the way ask T Squared to see the picture of his knee.

Lunch at the casino was another big crowd.  I had trouble counting how many (had to start over with my fingers) since I ran out of digits.  I don't think we solved any world problems, but there definitely a lot of opinions expressed.  I think some money was even won by some of the attendees.  It seemed like a lot of jackpots were won while we there, but none by us.  I even heard them announce there was a $56,000 winner.  Wonder if they asked for an armed guard to escort them to their car?

LTG and Twinkle Toes were very concerned about traffic conditions.  Seems they had a tee time at one of the simulators and didn't want to be late.  That reminds me it is about time to start your preparation for the upcoming season.  I always have good intentions but have trouble getting off the couch.  Maybe this year will be different.

Got go find the recliner and watch some golf.

Two For Two

Two snow storms;  Two mailboxes down.  I think the plow driver targets mine when he comes down our street.  I've watched him accelerate from Simmons road as he makes his way East on Ford.  The only good thing is the new mail box is easy to fix.  We only got stuck in the driveway once so far.  If you don't get the right angle when you turn in it is easy to lose momentum on the ice that has built up over the past couple of weeks.  I still hate winter.

Could you believe the ending to the Super Bowl?  I don't know who called the pass play, but what were they thinking?  You have the best running back in football;  you are on the one yard line and have plenty of time and timeouts.  I'll never understand pro football.  At worst you take three cracks at the goal line and if the best back can't score so be it.  Thankfully I'm not a fan of either team.

Today was Ground Hog Day, and he saw his shadow.  So we have six more weeks of winter.  Nothing new there, but maybe they'll be mild.  Couldn't really get much worse.  We'd have to get a ton more snow to beat last winter.  I don't see that happening, but I'm not holding my breath on it warming up anytime soon.

Remember Thursday lunch and Friday happy hour.
