Oh No, Not Again!!

I may have to put myself on double secret probation after I rolled three's in two rolls yesterday.  Thanks to Twinkle Toes my win was only worth $18.00.  But a win is a win is a win.  Fortunately there is still money in the pot so the rest of you shouldn't fret.  At least I was able to use the money for paying LTG and tips for valet parking plus have a little left over for next week.

After the conclusion of our round we were standing in the pro shop and the GWH picked up one of the training aids for perfecting your putting stroke.  He asked what it was supposed to teach you and Sarah responded that when you didn't put a good stroke on the ball it would either roll right or left.  Where upon Dr. Ah responded and said the GWH really shouldn't buy it since he already had a bunch of putters that did the same thing.  Now that is really cold, but sadly true.

See ya at the training table.   Remember they will be doing the greens this week.  We'll probably have some kind of fun contest rather the regular old stuff.

Not Again

Twinkle Toes is not allowed to roll the dice left handed in the future.  He has been on a hot streak ever since he started rolling left handed, and extended it yesterday by rolling sixes in two rolls.  He has now tied Dr. J for the most wins, but not the most money since he only won $27.00 this time.  He still has a ways to go to catch Dr. J.  But, enough is enough.

We played the same game but had a different winner yesterday.  That's what happens when you mix the players up.  Surprisingly the scores were very close to the day before.  I will say it was another beautiful day and the course was in super shape.

There is a one day member guest (aka stag day) today so I don't expect much to report on.

See ya,

CC

PS -  The Nurse went to the TSL Annual Purse Auction and won three purses in the raffle portion.  Just what she needed.  We're now trying to figure out where to put these.  Maybe Christmas shopping is partially done.

Perfect Weather

It was just another "$#&#@ in paradise" yesterday (for golf).  They crawled out of the woodwork in hopes of picking up a few rubles from the masses.  The competition was stiff but, my team was able to beat back the challengers.  Gilhooley brought in a ringer (Scott E. former member) and tried to sneak one past the group.  They did manage to pick off 2nd place and get their money back.  The course was in great shape and the greens were starting to speed up.  Conditions seemed to change during the round since there was a lot of grumbling during the after round Golf Talk Live session.  The rest of the week looks like it will be a repeat of Tuesday.  Since we are now officially in Autumn you'd better show up since the weather could turn on a dime.

No SOTD winners, but several close calls.  The pot is growing and stands at $55.00.  We're probably due for a large one before the snow shuts us down for the season.  Total JR/SR rounds played is at 468 and I expect will be close to our normal average of 570 before the year is over.

The Nurse reminded me there is one more couples event on Sunday.  The format is using the par three course.  I'm not sure whether it's a scramble or a shamble.  Either way it won't be as easy as you might think (based on previous scores).  Should be a fun time.  SIGN UP!!

JR/SR'S Rule

Yes the team of the LR Dr. and Bob D took the top honors in the JPK.  If my memory is correct they had a fantastic score of 71 in the two ball aggregate.  That's some pretty good playing considering the wet condition of the course.  I can't recall who finished second or third, but know Gilhooley and T Squared were 5th.  While LTG and I finished just out of the money it wasn't a total washout since I bet smartly in the para mutual and collected a nice return on my money  (over 200%).  It was too bad we had a shortened tournament because of the rain.  I was looking forward to the alternate shot portion.  We just can't seem to get away from the cycle of monsoon rains every 10 to 15 days.

Today is the last day of Summer.  Where did the time go?  Seems like just yesterday it was the beginning of June.  We still have some great days left to tee it up.  This week looks great with mild temps and clear skies forecasted.  So don't put the clubs away yet.

The SD made it Caliiiiifornia safely.  He called yesterday and said the weather was beautiful (told him he should see ours) and he was going to try hitting some balls later this week.  His arm is mending (slowly), and he no longer has any pain.

Wow, Even Par!!

Yes that's right Bob D. shot even par yesterday to help my team to prevail in the daily game.  TZ was "on fire"  on certain holes and made some major contributions to our winning team score of -24.  Me, I just cruised along and didn't have any big blow ups, but did contribute on occasion.  Bob's golf was a thing of beauty, and kinda snuck up on us.  He was really consistent with only two birdies and two bogie's.  I was really surprised when I added up the backside and realized what he had done.

The weather yesterday was really fantastic.  The course is drying out again and the greens were starting to speed up.  The fairways were firming and we are starting to get some roll.  Perfect conditions for the upcoming JPK this weekend.  This is always a great way to wrap up the golf year.  Hope to see you out there.

See ya at the training table.

A Day Of Firsts

First let me congratulate our JR/SR champions for 2015.  Both were first time winners.  Winning low gross shooting 79 was LTG.  Winning low net shooting 66 was LOA (he also won a skin on #4 with a net 1).  Another first was OTR (our only Appalachian American) beating the field out for DFL.  That was a hard fought win since there were several contenders (including yours truly) who had trouble with the great playing conditions.   Kudos to our golf professionals and grounds staff for another great job in contributing to our day.

We also have a new club.  Dr. AH and I formed the 9's club.  We are looking for additional members, but I'm not sure many will be willing to admit to the notoriety one must have to qualify for membership.  Some times it is just better to admit to the truth than trying to hide from it.  All I'll say is we didn't join on the same hole.  But one key qualifying requirement is that no penalty stokes can be involved with scoring a 9.
Yes, it doesn't get much worse.

There were no SOTD winners.  Remember Twinkle Toes spoiled the day by winning the day before and running off with all the meaningful money.  We are back to $20 (approx.) and the pot is due to build before the snow flies.

And, the final first was there were no required playoffs.  Now that really is a first.

See ya at the training table,

CC

PS - I have a picture of OTR's score card puzzle which I hope to publish as soon as I get it off my phone, into a folder, and downloaded to the blog site.   If I can accomplish that then it may the most amazing first of the week.

Another Holiday Come And Gone

Well another Labor Day has come and gone.  This one was the hottest in my memory.  What a scorcher.  The Nurse and I played Sunday and Monday and thought we might melt.  Saturday, as we all know, was a washout.  Where does all this rain come from?  We actually had planned on going to the Rabbit Wrangler's JV football game on Saturday, but it was cancelled due to the Varsity game being moved to Saturday because of lightning on Friday.  The Junior Fair was also this weekend.  No grand championship this year, but a couple of top five placements in a big field.

College football kicked off with some great games.  Of course the best (in my mind) was last night with OSU beating VT.  Yea I know it was interesting for a while, but it was a matter of time before all that talent overcame the emotional side of the game.  I don't know whether they can repeat as national champs, but they will be hard to prepare for.  And, personally I thought the best QB was sitting on the bench.

The plans are set for the JR/SR Championship.  A field of 22 will tee it up on Thursday.  This should be another great day of competition.

See ya,

Can't Please 'Em

With 17 players it is hard to keep it interesting.  Because of the odd number we ended up with uneven teams.  For the first time I took a suggestion that we allow the three man teams to use any players twice score if necessary for a 3BB format.  As might be expected the scores were somewhat higher than normal.  Of course when TZ has an out of body experience and has one of his rounds of the year his team would be hard to beat (minus 27) and win by a wide margin.  After all the whining we probably won't allow that format  again.  The one good thing about the day was we all survived the heat and humidity.

Not much else to report on.  The SOTD pot is now $63.  Oh yea, we did welcome a new member, Dr. Lou.  The LR Dr. said with his handicap he is going to be real handy to have around.
