Drive Much?

Last Thursday I decided not to play golf for the third day in a row, but I did come to lunch.  When I walked to my car when leaving I was met by by our pool manager and one of the life guards.  The like guard  had a paniced expression and the pool manager was really puzzled.  They inquired if I knew whose car was pinning the life guard's car in.  While parking about an hour earlier I had noticed a big, black Lexus at an odd angle and up against a van on the far side of the lot.  At the time I didn't think much of it, just thought it odd.  After taking a few seconds to think about it I concluded there was only one person who could managed this feat.  Right, only Dr. J drives a big , black Lexus.  And only he would probably forget to take the car out of gear when parking.  For the life of me I couldn't understand how it could roll across the parking lot.   I guess everything worked out and there was no damage to either vehicle.  I also understand Dr. J now knows there is a hiddren key in the fob for emergencies (ask him).

Twinkle Toes was the hit of the evening at the Canvas and Cocktails event.  While drawing rave reviews foor his art work he also impressed the crowd with his attire.  I have a picture of him I'll post as soon as I can get some technical support form the Nurse.

Looks like it will cool down tomorrow and great for golf.

Strike While Hot

Steve S walked in after playing and said he was going to strike while hot and win the SOTD.  Guess what?  He did, rolling five fives in two rolls (keep the fives).  That certainly was the icing on his cake.  He shot a smooth 78 to help his team win by one (and beat mine by one).  Overall there was a lot of good play yesterday.

Not much elese to report.  See ya at the training table.

PS - That's two times in a row that fives won the SOTD.

Not A Sniff

We played well, and were -14 in a 3BB format, but weren't even close to being a winner.  The LR Dr. must have had the whip out as he worked his crew hard to win.  The scores were much better than normal.  I can't figure out whether we are getting better or the course is getting a little easier.  Maybe today will give us a better clue.

Old Pal season is here, and the initial matches must be completed by Sunday.  Congrats to Twinkle Toes and TZ for out lasting their opponents to win one up.  I understand it was a hard fought match.  I also understand that OTR has thrown is partner under the bus after bowing out in the first round.  Trust me LTG and I know what he feels like.  We haven't ever been able to get out of the first round.

Another great golf day today.  See you at the training table.

Congrats

Kudos to Dustin Johnston for winning the US Open despite the USGA.  At the time of all the confusion I said all he has to do is win by more than one shot, and that's exactly what he did.  I have a pretty good understanding of the rules, but for the life of me I didn't see where he caused the ball to move.  Nor did the walking rules official since he didn't invoke a penalty at the time.  If he isn't competent enough then why have him out there.  Remember the USGA puts their best people with leading groups.

Golf Saturday was a lot of fun.  Our worthy opponents were on their game, the course was super and the weather was very summer-like.  It couldn't get much better, especially when you win $$.  We put a dent in the SD's anniversary fund.  Let's hope we can keep it up.

I paid OTR his SOTD winnings Saturday night.  I had trouble finding an envelope large enough to hold all the ones.  That should keep Otis and Ozzie in horse treats for the rest of the year.

See ya at the training table,

Horse Treats

OTR said he was going to stop at Luckey Farmers on his way back to the ranch and pick up a bag of horse treats for Otis and Ozzie (his horses) with the $148 he won from the SOTD.  He had five fives ("remember keep the fives") in two rolls to become the most recent winner.  Question.  Is he really buying horse treats or is the money going into the pony fund?  Only time will tell.

We had eleven players yesterday who watched the darkening skies.  I'm sure some were hoping for a rain-out since they weren't really a factor.  Because of the odd number Kennel Club was the designated floater.  Twinkle Toe's thought they had a sure thing since they only needed to pick up a couple of shots to be in first place.  What they didn't count on was Kennel Club having an off day and not giving the help they desperately needed.  That was great for my team since they were trying to catch us.  We gladly gave KC a full share for his effort.

Will they play the US Open today?  That was some monsoon that came through and washed out everything.  I'll bet the grounds guys will go beyond normal and have everything ready.  Now can the players adjust to a different course?  Plus conditions will change daily as it becomes hot and humid over the weekend.  At the end of the day the course will probably be the winner.

The Excitment Builds

We made it passed Dr. J's roll of the dice yesterday.  This was in spite of him saying the conditions were the same as when he won histories biggest pot in the SOTD.  We even had the LR. Dr. pay "it forward" and use 2017's dollar to trying to score his first win (he crapped out again).  Actually we only had a couple of close calls.  So the pot continues to grow.

The competition was tough with 15 trying to win at 3BB.  Because of the big field three places were paid - 1st, 2nd, and DFL.  First and second were really close with LTG's team (what a surprise) winning by a single shot.  Steve S, Gilhooley and myself managed to implode on the last two holes, giving back 6 shots, to finish at -5 for second place.  The LR Dr. managed to take DFL with a team score of +15.  I heard rumblings of a recall movement and fully support the idea for a new Commish.

Looks iffy for today with thunderstorms in the area.  Thursday looks like a winner though.

See ya,

Close But No Cigar

Saturday after golf we had four straight rollers come within one dice (or number if you will) of winning the SOTD.  However, with no winners the pot continues to grow.  We add $6.00 and are now at $279.00.
I'm not positive, but believe this could be the largest pot ever.  I know it would be the largest win if one in one roll.  The question is - "do you feel lucky"?  We'll see.  I'm predicting a winner this week.

The Nurse and I went to see the family on Sunday.  She and the daughter-in-law, and kids went to see the Lion King.  My son and I passed on that and did some guy things (Menard's and Dick's).  Because of the play we stayed overnight and drove back yesterday timing our return so we stop at Culver's in Findlay for a burger for dinner.  If your not familiar with Culver's it came highly recommended by TT and some others at the club.  It's like In N' Out, Five Guys and similar places.  To me burgers are all in the taste of the diner.  I will say theirs were very good and well worth the stop.  Plus the shakes were as good as any I've had in recent memory.  If go to one make sure you try a "cement mixer".  Don't like burgers - they have a really big menu and there should be something to please your palate.

Toby Keith's Song

If you are a country music fan you know that Toby Keith has a song with the lyric "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I used to be".  That was Gilhooley in a nutshell yesterday.  He shot some ridiculous score (statistically impossible, or very improbable) to basically help his team lap the field.  Needless to say they walked away with the most money.  OTR had to leave after nine holes, and his team had par for it's third player for the back nine.  Surprise, surprise they did better and ended up taking second place.  I'm not sure what that says, so I'll leave it at that.  The rest just sat in amazement and marvelled at what just happened to our money.

Mark Tuesday, July 26th on your calendar.  That's the day we are planning on holding the Steve Hopkins Memorial Invitational with our local college/high school women players.  We'll also unveil the event's trophy that day.  Details for the day will be coming as we get closer to the tournament.

See ya at the training table.

SOTY

It's that time again when the LR Dr. makes his annual attempt at winning the SOTD, or as we refer to it as the "shake of the year".  His record remains in tack.  Zippo in two rolls.  He was heard as say "now you guys can be happy, and I can enjoy the rest of the summer".  I will add that is one of the few times where everyone present rolled the bones, and there were no winners.

The Appraiser came out of hiding an showed  his skills haven't diminished from the prior season.  His captain - LTG - lead him and Bruce F to another win.  If this continues we may have to make LTG play by himself, or maybe start charging him  a premium to play.  I'm open to suggestions.

It still looks like great weather for golf for the next few days.  See ya at the training table.

Feel The Pain

We know what Matt Kucar must feel like after his collapse on Sunday at the Memorial Tournament.  While not costing us any where near the amount he didn't collect by winning Dr. AH and I weren't happy about shelling out $6.00 after having the match well in hand for 15 holes.  All it took was a putt liping out on 16, a miraculous putt on 17 for par and a tie on 18 (which included a whiff) for the tables to turn.  We lost four bets during that short stretch of holes.  Some would would say we should have played better, but I'd rather think the Golf Gods turned their backs on us.  Oh well, that's golf for you.

The weather looks great for this week.  Mild temps and sunny skies until late in the week when the heat moves in.  I'll expect to see a lot of you at the course.

Another Day Another .....

You know the old saying "another day another  dollar".  Well that's LTG's theme song so far this season.  I think by now you figured out his team won again.  They were the run away winners in a 3BB format yesterday.  You have to give credit where credit is due though.  The rest of us were fairly close but just couldn't get the ball to fall in the hole when needed.

When you see TT next time inquire about his new wardrobe addition.   Rumor has it he tried to blame it on the Mrs.,  but we all know how partial he is to bright colors.  I'll have to admit he looked pretty dapper in this new look in high tech, stay cool material.

Another great day coming.  See ya.

Stats Out

Since we have finished our first month of play and I haven't had a lot to occupy my time (according to the Nurse) I decided I would keep track of rounds played and money won.  The numbers are posted on the bulletin board and kinda of interesting.  I believe the data is pretty accurate, but it's hard to really know.  Rounds played is 142 thru June 1, and I think ahead of previous years.  Since this is weather dependent it's really hard to say.  A total of $556 has been won thru June 1.  LTG is the leading money winner with $103, Twinkle Toes is second with $77 and CC third with $61.  Several players are in the $40's.  I plan to publish this info at the end of each month.

The past two days have been super days to play and we have at least 14 showing up to play.  Today looks to be another good day to play.  A little cooler than the past couple of days.  I don't think we got any rain last night so the course should be running fast again.  Hope they move the pins since they've been in the same spot for several days.  That's a big advantage for the good putters.  But, it's still a challenge no matter where they are.

See ya at the training table.
