Rascal Flats

Well last night was the big concert night - Rascal Flats - at the Lucas County Arena. The concert was very good, but not being a Country Western fan I didn't know much of the music. But, there about 8,000 other people there that did. The place was really rocking. The only thing I can say about the venue is WOW! What a great place. Toledo doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone. The arena may not be as big as other cities but it is just as good. Can't wait to go to a hockey game.

Did you get the bunker question right? If you said D you were correct. Now for the next question. Here goes. Uncle Bob (aka Dr. Merlot) is playing in the Senior Club Championship and started the round with 13 clubs in his bag (he left his trusty hybrid on the range). He is permitted to obtain a club from:

  • A. A fellow-competitor in his group.
  • B. An opponent.
  • C. A spectator carrying club.
  • D. Anyone playing on the course.

The answer for the OSU trivia question - Rosie Jones.

The answer for the golf trivia question - wood.

To help the war effort during World War II, the grounds of Augusta National were used to raise what?

Lunch Friday Jan. 29, 2010 will be at Bar Louie's (noon).

More Answers

Well it has been a week since my last posting. Seems like a lot has happened. The earthquake in Hatti; the passing of Deanna Radeloff; the potential change in the Senate; and a lot of other minimal stuff. I'm sure thoughts and prayers go to Roger and his family on the passing of Deanna. She was such a positive and talented person to leave us so soon.

Back to more trivial matters. The answers to the last rules questions are: False on the repair of a ball mark question, and true to lifting a ball in a water hazard to determine fitness for play. The answer to the OSU trivia question is the players became sick after drinking water on the train from Columbus to Madison.

Next questions: Gilhooley's ball is in a bunker against a rake (we know he aimed there because sandies were being played). He moves the rake and the ball moves. What is the ruling?
  1. There is a penalty of one stroke; the ball plays as it lies.
  2. There is a penalty of one stroke; the ball must be replaced.
  3. There is no penalty; the ball is played as it lies.
  4. There is no penalty; the ball must be replaced.

Golf Trivia: During the mid-1500s in Scotland, the first golf balls were made of what material?

OSU Trivia: Who, in 1994, became the first member of the OSU women's golf program to be inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame? Hint, I played with her in the 1994 Jamie Farr Celebrity Pro Am.

No lunch this Friday because of the memorial service for Deanna Radeloff. Next Monday, 1/25/2010 at Moe's. Probably our last chance to see TTS before he leaves for Naples for the month of February.

One final thought. Last Saturday we went to Dayton for a third/fourth grade basketball game. the NBA players shouldn't feel concerned yet. But, there is a big difference from the prior year. The game is starting to resemble what we all know. It is also amazing how fast these kids grow.

How Did You Do?

Well, how did you do on the first 2 questions? The answers to both questions - False. See Rule 5-3 for ball unfit for play. As far as TTS goes he can replace his broken 5 iron with any conforming club as long as he didn't break the five iron in anger (see rule4-3). For him the 5 iron would probably be the right choice since adding a wedge would be of little help. We all know his proficiency with a wedge from 60 yards and closer. For that matter the same goes for LBB. Here's the next set of questions:

1. A player may repair a ball mark on the putting green only if the ball lies on the putting green.

2.After following the proper procedure, a player may lift his/her ball in a water hazard to determine if it is unfit for play.

OSU Trivia - What was the reason the 1942 national championship Buckeye Football Team lost its only game that year to Wisconsin?

BRRRRRR!!

Wow, it sure has been cold the past couple of days. Even the snow birds are experiencing the winter chill. The price of orange juice may be going up next year if this lasts much longer. Speaking of snow birds, the last one intends to take flight today. The Gilhooley's are packing up for the great Southwest. Here's wishing safe travels.

The deer must be short of food early this year. They have been cleaning out my bird feeders on a regular basis. And, we're seeing them earlier in the evening. Six of them show up on a regular basis. Our squirrels aren't very happy about the competition for food.

Here we go with the rules questions. I'll make it easy and use the true/false format for the first few. Your on the honor system and keep track of your answers. We'll see how everyone does later this year.

#1 Is LBB's ball unfit for play after hitting it so far the surface is scratched, scraped and the paint damaged from hitting the rocks on #2?

#2 TTs damages his 5 iron after hitting a tree on #5 and it is unfit for play. He wants to replace it a the turn. Must he replace it with another 5 iron if the pro shop has one?

Vegas Baby!!

The wife and I went to Vegas to start the new year. Stayed with our local jewelry friends and had a great time. Didn't lose much money but did enjoy going to the strip to see Jersey Boys, City Center and a couple of casinos we hadn't been to before. City Center is really different for the strip (will publish photos once they are downloaded). If you didn't know better you would think you're in any large city with high rises. Very contemporary, lot of glass, and lots of technology employed. And, very upscale! It really looked like they were after the Asian trade, but way cool. If the crowds are any indication the economy is on the mend. They said all the hotel rooms were booked for the CES later this week. That's their biggest trade show they have, and that has to be a good sign. All the flights were full and we didn't notice much of a change in airport security. Still the same old BS. I can't stand the fact that we have to take off our shoes because some clowns in our capital have to be PC. When our we going to learn to go after the right profile instead of 80 year old grandmothers? If the technology is there lets use stimulus money and put it in place ( enough with the meaningless pork projects).

By the way, I got one of the new smart phones right after Christmas and am glad I did. I'm still learning how to use it, but it is really amazing how many apps are out there ( don't have an i phone, but an HTC Hero). The ability to access the web and email without a lap top makes it much easier to travel. I even was able to take a photo and email it from my phone. Also bought some noise cancelling ear buds. They worked pretty well on the plane and eliminated carrying those clunky headphones. We pretty much decided a Kindle will be our next family purchase. Note - TTS I'll explain all this to you later over lunch.

Rules questions will start with the next post.

Lunch Friday at Biaggi's - noon.
