And we're here. The SD and Mrs. reported they made it to HH and are planning on meeting up with the GWH and all. We cut the annual trip short due to due to a situation I won't elaborate on here. Suffice it to say we had a good time at the Greenbrier. I had what may been the best steak I've ever had at Jerry West's Prime 44 Restaurant. Can't say enough good things about the dinning experience and would go back any chance I get. It's pricey ($$$) but well worth it.
The weather was a bit cool over the weekend and I didn't even try to play golf. I saw a few hardy souls out there and understand OTR and the LR Dr. played well in beat the pros on Saturday. Based on what they told me they should have been the best team that day. I've also heard the greens are getting better, but could really use a week of warmer weather. I hope the weather forecast is wrong for Tuesday - rain showers - since I'd like to play.
See ya at the training table.

On Your Own
The Nurse and I are leaving in the AM to head south for a few days. Our ultimate destination is Hilton Head where we'll meet up with the GWH (and Mrs.). The SD and Slap Shot (along with their wives) will be joining the group for a little R&R in the Low Country. This has turned into an annual pilgrimage, and I believe the 4th year we have been doing this. The last week in April, in my experience, is the best time to be there. Warm weather, no humidity, no crowds and the no see-ems are not really out yet. The only negative is the pine pollen. We'll deal with it though.
There were only four for golf today. Still cool and the wind was picking up throughout the afternoon. The SD and I only played nine since we were both trying to get ready to leave for our trip. LTG and Twikle Toes played on after the break. If we could only putt we all would have had pretty decent scores. The greens are getting better but have a ways to go. These below average temps aren't helping. But the course is good enough to play em down.
By the time we return some of the Snowbirds will have migrated back. Then we can get down to some serious competition. In the meantime hit them straight.

Brrrrrrr!!
Saturday dawned with bright sunny skies and a cold wind coming off the lake making it rather frigid. LTG was making a cameo appearance for the GWH (who was in Hilton Head being rained on) and partnered up with The SD. Dr AH and I made it through nine holes before calling it quits and having lunch. The SD and LTG mushed on and we didn't see them again before we left. I assumed they finished, but since I haven't heard from them I really don't know their fate. Since it was an abbreviated round no shekels changed hands. I really hated to quit but my hip was really being effected by the cold. Dr. AH was just plain frozen.
Easter Sunday was a much better day, but We couldn't play because the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Emma decided to come for a short visit. It's amazing how much kids can grow in a few weeks. It seemed like they both grew 2 inches.
The weather looks good for Tuesday. See you at the training table.

PS - Hope you read the email by the GWH (aka The Greens Chairman). I think that was an excellent explanation of what is going on with the greens. There's little doubt that warm weather will do wonders for growing grass. From my contacts at the TDGA we appear to be much better off than some area courses.

Velcro
I think when they aerified the greens this week they replaced the grass with Velcro. At least that was the consensus among the seven of us who teed it up yesterday. Actually it was only on the backside where most of us had a problem (remember they were done last week). The grounds crew was working on the front nine and they were surprisingly fast(er) than we anticipated. It was hard to make the adjustment for the second nine. But who can really complain. We had snow on Monday and play on Thursday. Twinkle Toes got a hot putter and was the medalist for the day. OTR was second and Slap Shot (yea he showed up wearing a tie) was third. The rest of us were just donors, but I was a close 4th.
We tried to have a winner in the SOTD, but everyone kept coming up one dice short. Sixes were very popular. I even had a tough decision whether to keep the fives or go for the sixes. Well against my better judgement I went for the sixes and rolled fives. Just goes to prove you can't defy one of the great SOTD constants; KEEP THE FIVES! Oh well, the pot is still small, but growing.
We all met one of the new Intermediate members. Twinkle Toes actually talked with him on the course when we let him play through. Of course he introduced him to the rest of us later and called him Brent when his name was Adam. Nice. We covered for him by explaining he has been having a lot of senior moments. Adam, to his credit, gave a knowing nod and laughed it off.
Saturday looks good for golf.

Bubba!!!
I don't think anyone I know comes close to hitting it as far as Bubba does. I don't care what club you want to select. Maybe the best drive I've ever seen was the one he hit on hole 13 this afternoon. I was happy to see him get another green jacket. As usual it was a fun Masters. Maybe there wasn't all the roars on the backside we have come to expect but still a great day of TV golf.
Yesterday saw great weather and our first really good day to play. Since the GWH was on the road Dr. J made a cameo appearance. Playing COD I was the medalist of the group but seemed to draw partners that would go in the tank when playing with me. I was able to keep the losses to $4.00, but I think I saw my playing pals having a secret meeting in the parking lot.
We had our first SOTD winner ( only $19.00). The SD, who is now on triple secret probation rolled 5 aces in two rolls. He said the pot was so small it really wasn't worth collecting, but his Mrs. would want the money for their anniversary fund so he took it any way. So we are now starting to build the pot again. At least there is $25.00 in there right now.
Supposed to be cold Tuesday so I don't know about golf. I worked extra hard today to finish our tax returns so I could play if possible. Hope to see ya.

Season Opener
Today was our season opening day. The sun was shinning, the temperature was Spring like, and the wind was blowing at gale force. When I checked the weather in the grill room it was a steady 38mph with gusts approaching 50 mph. Not a great day for golf. Out of the nine who started at least 6 called it quits at the end of nine, and the officials called it a no contest. So everyone gets their money back (see me). The course was a little wet from the rain, but playable except for the wind.
A few of sat around watching the Masters before heading home for cocktails. Not much else happened.
See ya,

Masters Week
Of all the weeks in the tournament season this is my favorite. I'm not totally sure why, but it's probably because Spring is finally here and the fact Augusta National is such a special place. Anyway it's always great theater and fun to watch.
The weather was great yesterday. About noon I saw carts on the course and got the urge to play. I needed the fresh air and didn't want to sit around the house and work on my tax return or watch something meaningless on TV. I thought a quick nine holes would be about right and headed off to the course. I ended up hooking up with The Pilot, Twinkle Toes, and JJ at the turn. These guys haven't changed one bit. Still thieves! I think they split my $2.00 up in the parking lot. The course is in pretty good shape for early April. Some good weather and it'll really be good. I know some of the greens look damaged from the winter, but Eric says they'll come back.
FYI- if the weather is good for golf there will be a small buffet available in the grill on Tuesday and Wednesday for lunch (normally we aren't open). So you don't have any excuse not show up.
See ya,

Caddy quote - Golfer: "Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron?"
Caddy: "Eventually."

Short Lived
Looks like we'll have to wait a few days before we can get on the course again. The good weather was short lived as the heavy rained moved in yesterday. It didn't take long for the water to start pooling in the usual places. Oh well, now I don't have a real excuse for not finishing my tax return.
I didn't make lunch yesterday, but was at the club on TDGA business. I could hear some of the banter though and assume all had a good time. I did talk to Bob K and he indicated he was going to play more golf this year. We can always use new money, although he normally is on the taking side not the donating.
In closing let me pass on one of the best caddy lines heard at BCC -
Golfer: "Please stop checking your watch all the time. It's too much of a distraction'"
Caddy: "It's not a watch - it's a compass.
I've got some other good ones I'll pass along periodically.

Sure Signs
Besides the calendar there are certain sure signs that Spring and warmer weather is coming. First of all when the mallards show up you know the weather is warming up. Second the grounds crew was out this AM blowing and mowing number two fairway. And finally when see the great blue heron it really gives you hope that warm weather is right around the corner.
The SD is planning on a lunch gathering this Thursday. If the weather permits we discussed playing the loop. I can't imagine carts being allowed, but we should be able to manage walking five holes for those interested. At least throw your clubs in the trunk so you can make a last second decision.
Sorry to see the BGSU women lose last night. I thought they had one more run left, but then they went cold from the field. The Badgers are the only team left I have any interest in. They are going to have a tough time with Kentucky. Who knows, it's been a strange season.
See ya at the training table.
