Teasing Us

That's what the weather is doing these days.  One day it's warm (but very windy) and begging for golf, the next day cold and wintry.  But, the good news is that the meterlogical winter is over today even though the offcial start to Spring is still three weeks away.  Plus March Madness starts in two weeks.  This could to prove to be one of the more exciting tournaments in recent history.  There isn't any dominant team, and my guess is there are a bunch that could win it all.  Can the Masters be far behind?

Today is a free day according to the Nurse.   So we are going to celebrate by doing things we wouldn't normally do.  All I know is part of it is going to Ann Arbor to try to get to Zingerman's (you know the deli you can see but can't get to).  I'll let you know later if we're able to make it.  We were planning on going to the Common Grill, but found out it is closed on Monday.  I guess it'll have to stay on the "bucket list" a bit longer.

Lunch last Thursday was pretty typical.  Ten talking all at once.  I must say Dr. J is getting into the idea of the Over/Under pool.  He brought in an article on an accident that closed down I75 in the area we will be watching.  I told him it was premature to start keeping records.  My nephew got back to us with one web site, but is still checking to see if there is a better one for our purposes.  I'm sure he thinks his aunt and uncle have started to go goofy.

Fianally I hope all you "Viking" are watching the new season.  Glad I didn't live back then.

The Over/Under

If you recall much of my last post dealt with the upcoming road construction lane closures on I75/475 and the confusion about the detours.  Well to continue that discussion the LR Dr. was at lunch on Thursday and asked if everyone had read the Perrysburg Messenger's piece about the closures.  Some of us and most of us hadn't.  He said they really did a good job of graphically showing what was going to happen and the routing of the detours (he was right).  That same evening the Nurse and I had dinner with the SD and TGWH (and wives) on our monthly pilgrimage to the Beirut  (the SD has been teaching us how to order Lebanese for several years).  Well, the conversation turned to the aforementioned topic and what a mess it was going to be this summer.   We wondered how many accidents would happen on a daily basis.  The consensus seemed to be at least 60.  Which gave me the idea to start an Over/Under Pool.  I don't have the details worked out yet, but expect to before construction starts.  My biggest concern is how to get an accurate count of traffic disrupting accidents.  I have a nephew who works for ODOT (he's an engineer) who may be able to help in that regard.   The entry fee will be $5.00.  Who knows you could be a big winner.  Stay tuned for details.

We had a big crowd on Thursday.  Maybe people thought there was another free lunch, but no such luck. As usual the conversation was lively, but didn't really have any solutions for all the problems we seem to hear about.  I'll give Dr. J credit he keeps trying to figure out ways we can have the SOTD in the casino.  I keep telling him they frown on gambling they don't run.  I guess he is in SOTD withdrawal. It won't be long before we can resume the game.

The weather today is really outstanding.  The only problem is the wind is blowing at a steady 25 mph which make almost impossible to play golf (that's coming from LTG who will play whenever possible).  Maybe Sunday will be better.

See ya at lunch.

PS - Saw TZ at Moe's the other night.  Said he was in town for his monthly visit to make sure his company was still there.

Welcome To Hollywood

During lunch one of the casino hosts visited with us and signed up the JRSRs who weren't already members of the Marquee Rewards program (which included received some free slot play) and also compted lunch for the group.  The newbies were last seen hurrying towards the gaming floor (after they ate their lunch).  I didn't hear any big jackpots announced so I assume they were all losers.  I hope they had a little fun.  We'll see who shows up next week.

The group was a little smaller than normal, but the conversation was still interesting.  Seems like the full range of topics from national to local politics, golf, school issues, and road construction were covered.  The road construction got the most attention because of the announced closure of one of the ramps from I475 to US23 for six months.  No one and, I mean no one could explain the detour.  After a great deal of debate I think the group came up with a reasonable understanding of what is going to happen, but don't ask me to explain it.  It was pretty obvious ODOT didn't explain it to the Blade.  All I can say is good luck if you are trying to get anywhere this summer.

Hope to see you at Happy Hour.

And So It Goes

The weather is going to be mild for a few more days.  The golfers will likely be out in force.  But, the temps are forecasted to drop and maybe a few snow showers will be around towards the end of next week.  So you might as well plan on coming to lunch.  Plus I've talked to one of the casino hosts about doing something for our group since we are faithful winter time lunch customers.  I'm not sure what they will or can do but they agreed to send someone to see us on Thursday.

Have you been watching the Phoenix Open?  I think this is one tournament that is always fun to watch, especially when you throw the 16th hole.  While they have tried too tame things down there it is still pretty rowdy.  Yesterday the one day attendance for the event was announced at 201,600 (there's only 230,000 residents in Scottsdale).  They say they are shooting for the all time record for a one day sporting event of 220,000 held by the Indy 500.  Does anyone doubt they will break it someday?  This year is the 20th anniversary of Tiger's ace on #16.  They brought in an "Iron Byron" with the moniker of Elrod, and on the 5th attempt it made an ace.  I think I may try to find one for the 2016 member tournament.

See ya,

Great Weather

Yesterday was one of those days where you just couldn't stay indoors.  So about 4PM I grabbed a six iron and walked over to #2 to take a little stroll and hit a few shots as I walked along.  I took the six iron because I have a love hate relationship with it. It used to be one of the best clubs in my bag but has been in a time-out for the past several years.  True to form the first several shots were pretty frustrating, but by the end of the walk we were starting become friends again.  I must admit it is a fragile relationship, but there is always new hope at the beginning of the season.  Ppersonally I think many more walks are going to be needed.

The course was a little soggy, but otherwise in pretty good shape.  Wet where you would expect it, but nothing like we would normally have after the snow melts. Oh, I forgot we haven't really had any snow.  Just a little rain.  I hope this lack of moisture doesn't mean problems later.  They're forecasting Spring weather for today - warm with rain showers.  Could we possibly looking at an early Spring?

I wasn't the only one going for a golf stroll yesterday.  There were a number of others out there playing.  This is on top of numerous players over the weekend.  I saw several foursome on Sunday.  Plus I know Twinkle Toes and LTG were out there playing before they ended the day with an adult beverage.

Lunch on Thursday was well attended again.  Not much new.  We did get an update on Dave S.  He is now in a hospital in Charleston, SC.  Later in the day I heard he was out of a coma and sitting up, but don't know much else about his condition.  Sounds like it will be a long slow recovery at best.

See ya Thursday.
