I think we can safely say that the 2012 golf season is now officially over after the blast of winter we got right after Christmas. If that is the only bad weather we get I'll be a happy camper. But, I'm sure there will be more to come in the next two months.
Speaking of Christmas I hope yours was a merry one. The Nurse and I spent a quiet couple of days before traveling to my family gathering in Columbus this weekend. This year was the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Em's turn to spend the holiday in G-town. Considering the weather it was just as well. I can tell several stories about holiday travel with a dog in the car and bad weather. I can vividly remember one state trooper who didn't appreciate a big slobbery kiss from our lab.
For all you fair weather golfers I'll be accepting bids next year for cart partners. The Nurse gave one of those cart heaters that fit in the cup holder and keep you toastie warm. I haven't fired it up yet but know they work quite well. Talk to my neighbor DB.
Question - What do you call 55 men watching the Super Bowl?
Today is the last day we will be able to meet for lunch at the training table. Hope to see you there. Last week we had a nice crowd and added a few more $$ to the SOTD pot. If you can't make it have a happy and safe new year's celebration. Also watch the SD's emails for our weekly luncheon location

Christmas Is Almost Here
I remember when I was a kid and was really excited that Christmas was almost here. It was such an exciting time because my grandfather made a really big deal about the season. Time changes a lot of things but I still look forward to the holidays and all the fun. This year is no different. But, I do feel things are little more mellow this year. Must be my age but I don't feel as frazzled this year. Shopping is almost done and the family will be in Gtown on the 25th, but things will speed up on the 28th when the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Emma visit with the "hounds".
Yesterday was exciting. I went in for cataract surgery. I had been told by many this was really a pretty simple operation, but until you go through it yourself .... I have to admit it was really painless and the results are amazing. This is the first time I could see out of my left eye without corrective lenses since the 7TH grade. Now I can't wait to get the right eye done in a couple of weeks. Will still use readers but that isn't a big deal. Getting out of bed in the morning and not fumbling around for glasses is great. And, no more hassle with contacts.
I see the SD has called for another Friday lunch in the Grill Room. Hope to see you all there.

Can You Believe It !?
Yes playing golf just before Christmas in just a sweater is pretty unbelievable for Northwest Ohio. But consider it was two days and it really stretches the imagination. OTR and I were the only ones to tee it up after lunch on Friday and got a quick nine holes in. The best part was I won a drink from OTR. A first for me. Then on Sunday I played another nine with LTG and his Mrs. Both days we had very pleasant conditions with minimal winds. The course is in really great shape.
Speaking of Friday lunch, we had a good crowd this past week. This week will be the last time we can meet before Christmas and hope to see all you there. The SOTD is over $250 and ripe for a win. That would be a nice way to start Christmas week with some extra change in your pocket.
In case you missed it we presented TTS with his locker door Sunday at his open house. Yes you heard right his locker door complete with all his plaques and name tag. I don't know what he plans to do with it; maybe give tours of his basement or garage. I must say it does show quite an accomplishment on the links at BCC.
Hope to see you Friday,

Lots Of Kleenex
That's what I have been using the past week. It seems we brought back a cold from Mickey Land; or at least the Nurse did. I may have caught mine here based on the number of people I've talked to that have a runny nose and coughs. In fact it is so bad that TTS postponed our cookie icing party for 36 to 48 hours. I had to put my icing tools back in the drawer for a while. That's too bad since I get to eat my many mistakes. You know what a perfectionist he can be.
Obviously there hasn't been any golf the past week. The weather just won't cooperate. I tried watching the Golf Channel and the Three Tour Challenge over the weekend, but just couldn't into it. Seems like golf on TV has had no attraction for me since the Ryder Cup. But, I am looking forward to the first week of January when the season starts in Hawaii.
The SOTD money has been deposited for safe keeping. I didn't know the Hollywood Casino had a deposit program. They are such easy people to deal with. Just joking the money is actually safe and sound in my home safe. Believe me it is really safe since I forgot the combination again. Does anyone have a diamond tip drill bit and a high speed drill?
Hope to see you at lunch on Friday in the grill. Greg promises he will take care of us as long as the club is open until the end of the year.

December Golf
Saturday was one of those rare late fall days (not officially winter yet) where we could tee it up and not have brass monkey weather. A bunch of us showed up on Saturday and chased the ball around the course. It was really a great day to play. Mild temps, and a firm dry course. The greens may have been a little slow, but rolled pretty true. Good for me since the putter was working along with some other parts of my game. Between two different games I won more in one day than I basically did all year. It was good to see the Sd back in the saddle. He didn't even ask for extra strokes.
I don't what this was about but ABE declared himself the winner of the FGGA (?). That raised a few eyebrows from some of his fellow friends. I even heard about a move to have an investigation and hearings before the Golf Comm. But he is probably home free since we all know that hearing don't amount to anything. Have to give ABE credited for making the trophy grab though. I suppose OTR will quit muttering by Spring.
Another Winter Dance is in the record books. Another good party and fun for all attending. Kudos to the staff.
I have had a number of requests for a list of all the people I refer to . I have to admit I even get confused at times. I developed the code names to protect the innocent. There is a roster of the JR/SRS which I maintain in my home safe. I'm working on a way to distribute the list in safe manner so that some of you won't be confused all the time. But first I have to remember the combination for the safe. The Nurse would really appreciate that since her jewelry was locked up when we went to Mickey Land. She has suggested hypnosis to see if I can remember where I hid the paper with the combo. More on that later, but I should have something out for you in the near future.
Tomorrow looks like it may be the last day for golf for a while. Hope to see you at the training table.

Mickey Land
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving Holiday. The Nurse and I spent the last ten days in Florida with the family. To be more specific we spent a week at Disneyland in Orlando. Four days of theme parks was a lot of fun with the grand kids, but one of the most tiring times I've spent in recent history. The place was wall to wall people. And, in my estimation 30% of them spoke Spanish or some other foreign language. I can't even begin to count the times I was almost run over by a stroller or mobility scooter. Why anyone wants to try to navigate a stroller through those crowds is beyond me. Besides anyone that young won't remember much of the experience. That's the primary reason we waited until now to take the grand kids. Plus, I don't see how the average family can afford to go there for any length of time. That place is like Vegas without the gambling. It can eat $50.00 bills in an instant. Oh well you can't take it with you.
The weather there was good but not great. One day we wore sweaters all day and were still chilled. But, no rain. The trip down and back was uneventful. I75 is almost 3 lanes all the way. The only real problem was hitting Atlanta on Friday before the holiday week at the middle of rush hour. UGH!! Thank God for the HOV lane. And why doesn't Florida use Easypass? Enough about the trip. Gas prices were all over the map; $3.09 to $3.49. I think we filled up 6 times.
I wonder what the GWH will do now that the USGA is going to ban anchoring? For that matter what are a lot of people going to do? That bring up a lot of interesting discussions in Golf Committees because of handicap issues if clubs decide to ignore the rule change. More on that later.
The weather looks to be pretty good over the next few days. Hope to get some late season golf in.

He Finally Won
OTR has had a long season. As he tells it he would win during the week with the JRSRs only to lose on the weekend to ABE and Slap Shot. So on Saturday they let him play with his two nemesis and he had a break through and was finally on the winning side. Now I'm not sure what to think since he also had Jasen on his team who shot 63. Sounds like the deck was stacked. But congrats anyway. It could have been a long winter without the victory. Kudos to Jasen. That is some playing (especially when you're paired with chops).
LTG showed up with his son-in-law who proceeded to take most of our skin money. Tyler put up a little 74 in a modified format (the 5's from the reds). We'll know next time that anyone who is wearing a Medina jacket can probably play. Especially when he is out driving LTG. Gilhooley played and won a couple of skins along with a couple of other guys. Even the GWH's putter came alive at times.
The weekend weather was pretty good for mid November. It doesn't get much nicer than Saturday, and probably won't again for a while if today is any indication. That leaves play up in the air for this week.
The SOTD had a couple of close calls (including LTG's son-in-law) but continues to grow and now has $215. That would be a nice holiday present.
See ya, CC
PS - Where should we met for Friday lunch? Send your thoughts to the SD.

Long Johns
That's what I wore for golf on Saturday. But I really didn't need them. There was no wind to speak of and the air didn't feel all that bad. I wish I could say the same for my game. Since the SD was still under the weather: the GWH was working on his deer blind; and Dr. AH was MIA I became a sub in the FGG. They let OTR set the format and then get snookered on the negotiation for strokes. He kept his record of never winning in 2012 in tack and I unfortunately was on his team. I can't blame him though. I didn't play well (go away for a week and the short game goes). Still had fun and enjoyed the banter. Glad I don't have to play the golds on the par 3's everyday.
Thank goodness the election is tomorrow. We quit answering the phone on Sunday just preserve our mental health. I'm convinced none of the talking heads have clue this time. Hopefully by Wednesday we'll have some kind of idea where our country is going.
Watch the weather and keep the clubs handy for good days.

The Big Wind
We are very lucky not to have been part of Sandy, other than the wind and rain we received locally. I have been through a couple of typhoons while in the service and can partially appreciate what the people on the east coast are going through. The Nurse and I were also evacuated from The Grand Strand area in the 90's and remember that was no picnic. Just count your lucky stars we live were we do.
No golf since Thursday which was pretty windy. Saturday turned out to be quite cold and we all passed. I understand that the FGG (or part of them) played and were all trying to be DB's partner (can you say cart heater?). More power to them.
If you missed the Halloween Party Friday you missed a great time. The costumes were really interesting. Make sure you check the pictures out in the next news letter. In my opinion Mrs. Smith (aka Dr. No) was the most creative. Judge for yourself after you see the pictures. Kudos to Mrs. OTR for all her hard work in making the evening such a success. The decorations were really something.
Don't know when we will play again. The weather looks to be good later this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. We normally can make it to November 20th.
CC
PS - I made my last trip around the lake looking for golf balls. The total count for the year was 8.7 dozen. That's about average for the past couple of years. Pro V1 is still the most popular ball. About 28% of the total.

Blustery
It was a blustery Thursday that 10 of us squeezed in one more round on a beautiful Indian Summer day. It was a little windy but that just added to the excitement. Three winners with six skins worth $9.00 each. A couple of close calls on the SOTD, but no winners. Dick G bid us goodbye as he heads South for the winter.
The great BCC Halloween Party is this evening. Do you have your costume ready. This could be one interesting night. I don't believe the club has ever held a party for the adults. Based on the rumors we have some weird puppies out there. I had to change my costume since the Nurse wouldn't let me come as Stephen Hawking (oh darn). Is the LR Dr. really coming as a fudgecicle (think about it)?

A Prime Time
Last night was the season ending Prime Rib Dinner. Unfortunately the SD couldn't attend due to his episode in the hospital. Despite that we had a good crowd and a nice evening. Earlier in the day we had nine show up for a little competition on the links. Five winners walked away with $9.00 each. Not bad for a bunch of chops who normally beat the ball around the course. And the day before I thinks the same guys walked away with the skin money too. But today is another day and there is still hope for the rest of us.
Speaking of today. They postponed the fairway work due to equipment problems and the weather looks to be good. This may be the last good day for awhile, so you really should show up and make another contribution. Besides the SOTD is closing in on $180.00, and we're probably due for a winner.
Off to the bank to get more scheckles, loonies, punts or anything else I can find at the foreign currency desk.

Must Have Been The Cold
That was the comment from the GWH and the SD as TZ and I were separating them from their money on Saturday. I have to admit it was a tad chilly. That's one of the reasons Dr. AH decided to sit the day out. For my part I was just getting some of my own money back, but TZ was seeing the day as a new source of funds.
If you missed the Trivia at BCC Saturday night you missed a pretty good time. The JR/SRs are smarter than they look. And Twinkle Toes is a pretty good sub for Alex Tribeck. I don't know when the next addition of this game will be but you should think about forming a team and start brushing up on your depository of useless information. The questions ranged from ancient history to contemporary topics. But the real strategy is in how you assign points. You can miss alot of answers but finish in the money. And, when was the last ime you saw 50 plus people at the club on Satruday night without having a major event?
NEWS ALERT, NEWS ALERT: As I'm sitting writing this I was told by the Nurse we received an email that the SD was in St. Luke's with chest pains and had been there since early Sunday morning. Since he was reading the WSJ and watching Fox News I don't think he is in serious danger, but still has some discomfort. I'll post an update when I get more info. Keep him in your thoughts.
The weather looks like we may be starting Indian Summer this week. The forecast calls for some pretty warm temps by Tuesday and the rest of the week. Don't put the short sleves away just yet. We still have a few more rounds left this season.

On The Road
I spent most of the week on the travel circuit. First up was the Toledo Golf Hall of Fame event held at TCC. While I'm not a big fan of TCC I have to admit their greens were as good as I've seen anywhere this year. They were as smooth and fast as you could want. I started out making a big bomb and the hole looked as big as a bushel basket the rest of the day, and I had my best putting round of the year. Then on Thursday the Nurse, Dr. and Mrs. AH and I went to Findlay CC for a road trip. FCC was in great shape and again the greens were very good. The only downside was all the leaves. I lost four balls on the edge of the fairways. Both days were cold and windy and reinforced the fact that Fall is her (TTS would have had 3 on). By the way our greens very pretty good on Saturday.
Saturday saw the return of the SD and a resumption of our Saturday game. Dr. AH and I prevailed, but not without a minor scare when the SD woke up on the last three holes. For some reason his putter failed him, or the outcome might have been different. Any small triumph is a plus and we were glad to get some of our money back. I played better than I have all season thanks to a longer back swing. Why it took me this long to figure that out is a mystery, but it always seems to be the case. The season is coming to a close when you realize what you have been doing wrong all year.
The weather forecast is decent this week. Hope to see everyone at the training table. I can see another Shamble or maybe a Scramble in the works.
CC
PS - How about that wind last knight? I awoke to find cushions from the deck in the yard along with some Mums blown out of the pot. Hope we don't have that again anytime soon.
PPS - Anyone want to go skydiving from 124,000? What a feat!

Squeezing One More Round
Squeezing one more round out of the season is what a lot of people had on their mind yesterday. That's what happens at this time of the year. We all know the weather cold turn on a dime and it's a long time till neat year. Thus we had a larger than normal group for Wednesday. With an odd number of players I had to be a little creative and decided 3 BB of 5 would be an interesting format. Dr AH was picked at random as the swing man and helped LTG's team to prevail. He only helped on 2 holes, but that's all they needed. Good thing too. The other 16 holes on his card weren't very impressive. I guess the reverse K swing tip wasn't working to perfection (ask him to explain).
I thunk we have quite a few rounds left in this season though. The weather for Thursday looks to be pretty good and I'm sure we'll see some players we haven't seen for a while. I know already told me he plans on being there if he can finish his Meeting in BG in time. Plus we still have Indian Summer to look forward to.
Did you see TZ traded in his Rolex for a fancy prisoner monitoring bracelet? He says it's band that he got from Nike to monitor his calories, walking and etc. I'm not so sure though. I think there is a GPS chip in it so somebody knows where he is at all times. Personally I'd rather have the Rolex.
Note to OTR - It ain't the arrows it's the Indian. The clubs are back in your locker.
See ya at the training table.
CC
PS - I want you to know if anyone finds a ball with the initials CC it aren't mine. I learned a long time ago not to logo my golf balls (since they are found in strange places). But, someone has enough money to buy Pro V1's and I'm keeping all I find.

Oh No! Not Again!
That was my reaction after receiving a voicemail from JJ saying he had hit the SOTD in two rolls. He is getting to be as bad as Dr. J. Now they are both on triple secret probation. But after returning on Thursday and checking the dice cup and seeing there were only $3.00 I'm not sure whether to pay off. When you you are on triple secret probation (multiple winners always are) you must file your claim for winning in triplicate accompanied by signed affidavits from three witnesses. And, the witness can't be anyone from the staff. Since there were only $3.00 in the cup I can only assume there were only three players. Since you can't witness yourself how do you validate you winning. I told JJ the JR/SR Executive Committee would have to meet and vote whether to pay. My guess is the next meeting will be in about three months. In the meantime we'll hold the money in escrow.
Saturday saw Dr AH bring an out of town guest so I partnered up with the GWH. Fortunately we decided to play COD and I took multiple bets from him. For a while I thought it was going to be a long day. I had loaned the guest a set of clubs and he proceeded to play better than I ever had with them. In fact he tried to take them with him when he left.
Can you believe the Ryder Cup? I knew the US was in trouble when Justin Rose ran in those long putts on Lefty. No way that happens again in our lifetime. Then to be be dependent on the last three matches was a stretch since those guys weren't exactly burning the course up this week.
Since it's the first of October it is time to start Silly Season in earnest. Show up and see what I'm cooking up..
CC
PS - Triple secret probation can be applied retroactively.

Since it's the first of October it is time to start Silly Season in earnest. Show up and see what I'm cooking up..

Fall Is Here
Saturday dawned cloudy and cool. Before we could finish our round the skies opened up and dumped a heavy shower on us. The GWH and TZ were getting soundly whipped and agreed to settle for a bit less than they really were down. We readily accepted since their stroke holes were coming up and you never know when one of them will wake up. The GWH was having putting problems. He had gone back to a standard length putter. I don't know why he abandoned his belly putter.
Twinkle Toes hasn't had his scenes shot yet. When asked he doesn't know when they will. Who knows maybe he hasn't made the script writer's final version. He could be the victim of the proverbial red pencil. Let's hope not since he spent a lot of time growing his cookie duster.
This week will be a little disjointed for me. No golf on Tuesday, CIC on Wednesday and morning golf on Thursday. Plus I'm trying to get some shrubs trimmed so I can catch the fall brush pick-up. Actually the weather should be rather nice after we get by Monday. I had to turn on the heat since the Nurse was freezing. I don't know what the problem was since it was 64 degrees in the house. That's rather toasty if you ask me.
Speaking of the Nurse. How you like the pictures she posted on the blog? It took her a while to get everything to load. If it was me trying to do that I would still be working at it.
Since the Tour Championship is over I think we can go directly to our silly season. I tried a couple of different formats last week, and it seemed to go OK. Now I can really get creative.
See ya,
CC
PS - Yes it is officially Fall. Time to get the sweaters out of storage.

GUEST BLOGGER
While the cat is away the mouse will play - or in this case the "nurse" will blog. As many of you already know, Captain Canyon and I were at the Greenbrier in West Virgina early in the week. In the words of Adele, "Rumor has it" that no golf clubs were packed. While the rumor was correct. We were there one whole day (two nights) and decided to do the Falconry instead of the golf. It was an incredible choice. It only lasted around an hour. The naturalist gave us a background on falconry and we learned that falcons, hawks, eagles and owls are considered birds of prey. Most of the time harris hawks are used in demonstrations for the falconry program. We then proceeded out of the barn and into the driveway where we were treated to a show. At one point we lined up in a gauntlet formation and the hawk would fly between us. The space increasingly closed in until I could feel the wing brush by my arm. We then moved out into a small meadow type area and the naturalist asked if anyone would like to put on the glove. While I have to tell you that my hand was up immediately and first. I put the glove on (to protect the arm against the talons) and the food was placed in my hand. The hawk then flew in from a tree branch, landed, ate and then flew back to a tree. CC was next and the sequence was repeated. I am going to post pictures of CC and one of just the hawk. I am also going to post a picture of Belmont's osprey. If you click on the picture it will enlarge and if you look closely you will see a fish in the talons.
Thanks for letting me post.
The Nurse
Thanks for letting me post.

Finally
Yes the pendulum finally started to swing in the other direction. Dr. AH and I were able to sweep our worthy opponents on Saturday and recover a smidge of our money. It wasn't easy since they fought like a rabid, cornered badger. Dr. AH had his best round of the year and almost shot his age, and my putter awoke from a long slumber.
Congrats to Dick G. and Dave W (aka Plus Fours) for winning the Founders Day tourney. They shot an amazing minus 17 to blow the field away. Plus Fours has been on a hot streak since the JRSR Championship.
The Founders Day tourney raised about $20,000 than ks to the hard work of Kennel Club. The raffle was quite interesting and alot of fun during dinner. We had a nuber of JRSR walk away with some of the prizes. Unfortunately the we didn't get the the big one.
See ya Tuesday.

On Fire
It was a pleasure to watch a master at work. Especially when he was on fire with the putter. LTG had one of those days where he could make everything he looked at (except for the little 4 footer on twelve). He shot 33 on the backside with a double thrown in. That's right he had 5 birdies, and it should have been six. Combine that with 38 on the front and he posted a smooth 71. I believe that's the best round of the year for a JR/SR. Needless to say his team won the daily event. Congrats again.
Several really close calls on the SOTD, but no winners. My guess is there will be a winner in the next week or ten days.Remember you can't win if you don't roll the bones.
I'll have a guest author to fill you in on our trip to The Greenbrier. It's not that I can't tell you about it but I'm technically adapt at downloading pictures to the blog. I'll just say we had a great experience with the falconry and let the Nurse fill in the blanks.
The weather seems to have cooled off in anticipation of Fall. Great weather for golf as long as it doesn't rain. See ya at the training table.
CC
PS To Mrs LTG - Dave W was referred to as Pluse Fours (PF) or as some have named him Larry of Arabia (LF). Your choice.

Rain Delay
That's what we got this morning with the Senior Inter club which was to be held at HMGC. The new date is October 5. That's quite a delay in my book. Oh well it is better than getting all wet.
Yesterday was another fun afternoon on the links. A good turnout turned into no money for yours truly. Scores were interesting for three man teams. I thought that we'd be bunched together, but one group had the audacity to play really well. I won't get into particulars.
My old GPS broke and Callaway couldn't repair it so they gave me 50% off on a new one. It came in yesterday and was supposed to work right out of the box. It does, but I don't understand how to use all the buttons and keys. The web site isn't much help either. I guess I'll break down and get Tim (Asst Pro) to educate me. Maybe by the time this one breaks I will have learned how to use it.
See ya next week. Going away for a little R&R.

The Rich Get Richer
No I'm not talking about politics. Instead that the winners never really change. The LR Dr. was made Captain the last two days ( a little OJT) and it is funny how his team was in the money both days. His guys would have really been big winners if it wasn't for some really good scoring by Dr. J, TZ and Dick G. I guess the greens had no effect on anyone. My only question - TZ where were you over the weekend?
Twinkle Toes reported he has been given a bigger part in the movie "The Society" being filmed in Sylvania this week. He is now playing the part of a CPA instead of a Lawyer. More lines and etc. Of course we'll have to wait and see if he actually makes the movie and not the cutting room floor. I'm not sure what the movie is about. It sounds like some B grade sci fi flick. I can't imagine him being in anything very high brow. He did have to learn how to tie a bow tie (and buy his own). Sounds like some low budget production.
I guess I'll have to take back the reins of authority from the LR DR. Two days of OJT is about all the group can handle. The weather looks good and my guess is the greens will be slow today. We'll see how this plays out.

DFL
It seemed like the roof fell in on TZ and myself every time we teed it up on the back side during the JPK. We actually played better than our score indicates, but that's what everybody says. I don't have any explanation other than we couldn't do any thing right at times. Anyway it's over and we can go on to other days and hope for a different results. Congrats to all the JR/SRS who played well and cashed. I saw/heard some ugly scores on a lot holes from pretty decent players.
The Nurse has been pretty successful taking pictures of the wildlife around our house and the lake. Recently the osprey has been spending a lot of time fishing on the lake. She was able to get a shot of the bird sitting in a tree with a fish in its talons. Pretty cool. Also she got a decent picture of a kingfisher. I know they are around here but I've never seen one. She has also spent a lot of time taking photos of the humming birds. They have been going trough a feeder every two or three days. They are so quick it is hard to capture them. It won't be long before the ducks start to migrate South, and we usually get some interesting pictures.
Football is back. There's almost too many games and hard to keep up with what is going on. I finally quit trying Sunday and watched the end of the golf tournament. That was pretty exciting. The Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup should be fun to watch this year.

Rain Delay
The bolt of lightning made us scurry to the grill for a rain delay yesterday. After about 30 minutes we resumed our attempt to beat our friends at a 2bb game. Actually the rain was welcomed since the humidity was a real killer. Conditions improved but the golf was the same. Bill N and his crew walked away with the loot.
Dr AH has joined the 21st century and gotten himself an i phone. During the rain delay all his friends gave him hints on how to use it. It was pretty telling when six guys pulled theirs out of various pockets and holsters and looked up the weather, stock market, responded to emails and etc. No more can they comment on all those other young people who seem to be married to their phones. It certainly appears we have become tech savy to one degree or another by default. While not carrying mine everywhere it is amazing on how dependent I am on it.
See ya at the training table.

Rabbit Update
Well the fair is over and the Rabbit Wrangler is going back to school with a lot more money in his bank account. The Grand Champions Aauction was yesterday and the rabbits fetched $850.00 this year. Plus he sold some other rabbits for an unknown amount. The Nurse and I didn't attend the auction this time. We stayed here and sweltered on the golf course with the rest of you. Besides it was really raining at the fair and I'm sure it was a mess there. Based on my son's comments I think the entire family was happy to see the fair come to a close.
Dr. J made a cameo appearance for the SD Saturday. He was on fire in the COD game. In fact he was even par through 5 holes on the backside before making his first bogey. I think he had his best round of the year. The only good thing was we were able to minimize any losses through the efficient use of the auto press. The JPK is coming up this weekend so I don't have to worry about fending off any exceptional play.
Kudos to Gilhooley and Uncle Bob for taking their Old Pal match yo 19 holes. I know it had to be tough for Gilhooley with the weather and all. Also LTG has finally joined the hood with his move on Saturday. He and the Mrs. were on the course on Monday since they were tired of unpacking (you've got all winter for that) and beginning to bicker. And Mrs LTG don't even think of moving the armoire (sp?) But nice job with the decor.
Since the course is closed today I'll see you tomorrow at the training table.

Winners
Lots of winners to report about this week.
First and foremost for me was the Rabbit Wrangler. If you remember he was the Grand Champion exhibitor at the Montgomery County Junior Fair in the Meat Pen Rabbits group in 2010. We all thought it was kind of as flute since it was his first competition. Well he was the Grand Champion exhibitor again this year in the same category. He also had a third place finish in another category. We're not sure but this may some kind of Junior Fair record. The winning rabbits were the offspring of the same pair from 2010. I don't know what these rabbits will bring at the auction (last time it was $750.00) but I think the real money may be in the breeding pair or the buck at a minimum. Anyway, a two time winner by the age of eleven is pretty good in my book.
Second, Silk won $105.00 in the SOTD. We were due for a winner and he was one of the few who were still a virgin. Then yesterday he just missed doing it again. In fact we had a couple of close calls, but at the end of the day the pot grew to $120.00
Finally Steve F. made his annual visit from Arizona, and managed to place for some money in our daily game. His handicap travels well. He probably would have done better but he didn't count on losing a scorecard playoff to a couple of our chief bandits.
I understand Ed S. is to have brain surgery after suffering an injury from a fall. Don't know much of the facts but keep him in your thoughts.
The SD is running off to California for R&R for a month. I asked him to leave his entry fees here since this was not an approved leave, but he said he needed extra gas money for his guzzler since he was driving. We are taking applications for a replacement on Saturday while he is gone.
Have a great Labor Day Weekend and Go Bucks!

They Are The Champions
We have new winners of the JR/SR Championship. Congratulations to Bill N and Steve H for their play yesterday. I know it was a great day to play and everyone was trying hard to get their name on the trophy. Condolences to JJ who could not four-pete, but all streaks come to an end. His record will probably stand for a long, long time.
Thanks to Brad, Jason, and Tim for their hard work handling the scoring and all the prep work. Everything went off without a hitch. Also I don't want to forget Greg and Bobby for their work and Chef Kiel for the dinner.
And finally a big thanks to all who played. You the participants have made this event what it is. Our group is becoming the envy of a lot of clubs. I think we're very fortunate to have such a great group of guys who come out to play every week.
Unlike prior years we didn't have a SOTD winner. Some close calls but nada. Remember "keep the fives".
In another month or so we can start Silly Season. I've got some new ideas for this year.

Facts
Here are some facts for you:
A couple of close calls on the SOTD but no winners. Remember you should always keep the fives.

PS - The other day during one of my course rating assignments for the TDGA we had a difference opinion on ratings for green surfaces. Everyone thought I was too lenient in my ratings. Since I tend to compare everything to BCC I asked to have the office send me the green ratings for BCC done in 2005. I received them yesterday and after reviewing them I found them to be the toughest ratings that I have seen to date.
- The JR/SRS have played more than 525 rounds of golf to date.
- We have at least 22 players signed up for the Championship.
- We have 23 signed up for the skins game to be held as part of the Championship.
- This is our 4th annual Championship and it continues to grow in popularity.
- We may soon run out of wall space for our annual photo.
- And finally 3bb of 3 is a tough format as attested by yesterdays scores.

Almoost Here
Yes, the JR/SR Championship is almost here. To date we 20 entries in the tournament and 21 for the skins game. There is still time sign up. I worked up the payouts this AM and I think everyone will be happy if you can make it in the money (about half the field).
Championship weekend was interesting. Some surprises with the winners. Congrats to all winners and participants. I thought the course setup was fair. The greens were still slow and seemed to give most of us fits. But we all played the same course so no real excuses. There's always later this week and next year.
See ya at the training table.

TJ Max vs Target
Some things are just too good to pass up. JJ related this story yesterday after golf. It seems his kids gave him a gift card for a local chain retailer. Being the shopper that he is he went to the store and proceeded to find the men;s dept., picked out some clothes and went to check out. The cashier asked how he wanted to pay for the purchase and JJ said he had a gift card. The cashier said that was great but the store next door was the only place that would accept it. JJ said he didn't understand since both business names started with T. Good point.
Anyway we had 13 yesterday for our daily round of fun. Scores were pretty close with Uncle Bob's team winning. Twinkle Toes is back playing but moving .very slowly. Gilhooley made a cameo stop at lunch and looked pretty good. He was putting since the doctor won;t let him take a full swing.
Check the bulletin board for updated lists for the JR/SR Championship. FYI, as a group we have played over 500 rounds.
Good luck to all this weekend.

Another Tough Day
To add a little spice to our daily fun I decided to play 3 BB of 4 as my Captain's pick. Little did I know it would be a real challenge for all. I even caved on the lift, clean and cheat request. To say the scores were less than impressive would be an understatement. We thought minus 4 was pretty bad but it turned out to be a winner. We actually got to that score twice.
Twinkle Toes has been missing in action lately. It was reported yesterday he has been suffering from vertigo for about a week. I never had that ,but understand it is a real problem. Hope he gets back to normal soon. I wonder sometimes if this doesn't travel around like a virus. This is about the 4th case I've recently heard of.
We're getting close to the Championship and people are still scrambling to qualify. Currently the field size is north of twenty. Check the bulletin board in the locker room entry for the latest update.
See ya.

Big Sports Weekend
The conclusion of the Olympics, the PGA Championship, and the Husband/wife Championship (aka Divorce Open). I'm not sure which was the most exciting, but the DO had the most suspense. The Nurse and I teed it up and started out with a net birdie on #6 and then it went down hill from there. Two balky putters were our demise. We only had one disaster, but just couldn't get the ball to fall from 4-5 feet. Oh well, there's always next year.
I saw just the end of the PGA. Kudos to Rory for playing so well on a difficult track. As far as the Olympics goes I didn't think the closing could get any stranger than the opening. But was I wrong. Based on what Brazil showed it should really be something to see in 2016. Some of the music was great, but a lot of the rest was beyond me. I guess it must be a European thing.
Saturday golf was a little foggy. I think I had too much medicine on Friday night. Actually no thinking about it, I did have too much medicine. Some semblance of my game showed up on the backside and we managed to only lose $2.00. TZ subbed for the GWH and it is always difficult to overcome being Ziemed.
Weather looks good this week. See ya on the tee.

The Dog Days
Normally we would consider this the "dog days of summer". But yesterday was one of those rare days in August where we had cloud cover and even a few sprinkles. My team came in a distant second to the LR Dr's group. We tried to demand an audit but they took off with the money before we could find an honest auditor among us. At least it wasn't a huge pot. It was hard to believe that a threesome could play slower than two foursomes. But when you have to use par as your partner on a one ball hole you start to understand the problem.
Nice crowd at dinner last night and it was very pleasant on the balcony. Even the rain shower was a welcome change and I'm sure it was good for the course. Maybe Eric will get a break with the weather. He certainty has had some tough conditions this year. The constant 90 degree plus days make it very difficult to grow grass. I know we all have been concerned with the greens and their speed. If we can get some cool nights with warm days it would be a big help.
See ya,

I know we all have been concerned with the greens and their speed. If we can get some cool nights with warm days it would be a big help.

Urban Legend (?)
Jim E (aka The Badger) told this story after golf yesterday. I just wonder if it is an urban legend or really true. Here goes. It seems that the guys in The Badger's group were going to go to dinner after their round (with wives of course) and Steve H (aka Full Flaps) volunteered to make the reservation. Where upon he pulled out his phone and called Moe's and asked for a table for 6 at 6:30 PM. And then requested they be seated in the front so they would be closer to the kitchen. Next thing you know we'll be able to get a gift card for a Moe's at Giant Eagle. I wonder if they take lunch reservations?
We had a big crowd yesterday - 15 even without TZ. Seems like the same old bandits won. Hope everyone is following the SD's emails. He will be posting updates on the qualifiers for the JR/SR Championship. Some people only need one more round (take note TTS) while others have a few to go. There's still plenty of time to make it.
The SOTD is growing by leaps and bounds. We are now at $110.00 after yesterday. With a little luck we could have a big pot for the Championship Day.
Gotta go,

It Was Time For A Nap
That was my first thought after the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Emma left after spending four days with us. That included their two dogs. It seemed like it was constant action the whole time. But it was fun to have them around for a while. One side benefit was that I finally went to the BCC pool after 20+ years of membership. Of course it had to rain while we were there and the top was down on the car. Fortunately it didn't take too long to dry out.
Saturday's golf game went down to the last hole. Somehow the GWH managed to make par while the rest of us were all over the place. That one hole cost us $4.00. Both he and the SD played well below their handicaps with little or no effect after they posted scores. I'm starting to have serious doubts about GHIN.
We may be getting a break in the heat for a few days. The mid 80's seems like the fall after being in the cooker we've had recently. So another good week to sharpen our games before the JR/SR championship.
See ya at the training table.

Correction
I mistakenly referred to TTS as a SOTD virgin. I had forgotten that he had managed to win once earlier. I was confused by the fact he is always complaining that he never wins. My bad.
Thursday was another hot day on the links. Thank goodness for the wind. OTR and his merry band of cohorts squeaked out another win and went home with the majority of the loot. e started out like a house a fire, but ran out of gas and luck on the last four holes. We just couldn't make enough "Men's Warehouses" to keep pace.
No real scares in the SOTD. Even though TTS won the other day we are approaching triple digits again.
Keep Gilhooley in your thoughts and prayers. He is beginning his treatment and we're all keeping our fingers crossed that all is successful. Isn't it ironic he got a hole-in-one on Wednesday.

He No Longer Is
TTS is no longer a SOTD virgin. He some how managed to roll five fives. There was a serious question by those present whether it was in two rolls or three. His second roll ended up on the floor and we let let him have a do over under the SOTD rules. Anyway he won $64.00. Now he can quit belly aching about never winning. Then to add injury to insult his team won the day's game in a score card playoff. The LR Dr. thought we were paying four places (there were only four teams) and was disappointed when no cash came his way. Now we only have a couple of JR/SRS left who haven't hit the SOTD. Their time may be nearing.
We had two more qualify for the JR/SR Championship. That bring s the total potential field to 19.. Since we have three more weeks to go I expect we'll get a few more. Several people are almost there.
Thursday is going to be another good day to play. See ya at the training table.

The Games Begin
The 2012 Olympic Games have started and I can't believe I watched several hours of men's and women's road racing. I still find it amazing that it can be so close after 150km. I also watched women' foil (fencing) and decided that Zorro had nothing on the two finalist. And how about the legally blind archer setting a world record, or the American female skeet shooter who hit 99 out of 100 targets to win gold. I hope the future coverage includes something besides the stuff we always see. It's fun to see the other competitors
The course was pretty wet after the showers we got on Friday, but we still had a fun match on Saturday. The good guys prevailed again and we again won some of our money back. Most of our success was due to good play, but some was due to poor putting by the SD from short range.
Looks like another good week for golf.
CC
PS They gave away a jeep at the Casino Saturday night and KC told me there were only 80 million entries to make the drawing from.

Wilted
That's what we felt like after playing yesterday. The round started out with comfortable temps but got worse as the round went on. I'm sure it was the humidity more than anything, but wow. Scores were reflective of the conditions. But the rich got richer, and the rest of us just wilted. OTR, Dr. AH and I couldn't hit tthe proverbial cow in the arse with a shovel. It finally got the point of being comical. There was a score card playoff with TZ's team winning.
Check the bulletin board for the JR/SR Championship qualifiers. I've also put up a list of those needing rounds to make the field. Remember the numbers are based on the daily sheets I have. To date we've played about 400 rounds. If you think your record isn't correct let me know.
Has anyone seen TTS? He seems to missing in action.
Stay cool!!

Time Flies
I can't believe it's Tuesday already and I haven't posted anything since last week. In a nut shell it's still hot and humid. We've had little rain and really need some.
Saturday's golf game saw the good guys getting some of their money back by winning four bets. Our opponent s seemed to be shell shocked at the out come. The JRSRs showed their talent on Friday by winning the SR Inte-club. It wasn't really that close. I think we took five out of the eight places paid. Congrats to OTR and Bill I (The Appraiser) for beating us in a scorecard playoff for first. How about those tee markers on 6 and 15?
We had a real scare with SOTD. Four players (in a row) rolled four of a kind. And, I think on the first roll. But no winners, so the pot continues to grow.
I heard the Couple's Twilight was a big success on Friday. It is interesting no team broke par playing all holes as a par three. That should tell us all something.
Great Open Championship. What more can you say?
See ya at the training table.

Brave Souls
We would like to think that we were brave souls for playing yesterday. Since it was supposed to north of 100 we teed it up in the AM. To my surprise there were 12 of us tempting heat stroke. But we made it through without any incidents. It was amazing to see the number of people playing yesterday. The course seemed to be pretty active. Anyway I digress. Since it was too hot to think we played a little skin game and had some unlikely winners. I couldn't imagine there would be three birdies for net ones on the par threes. I think you needed to make a net eagle to have a chance and then a couple of those were cancelled. We will continue to play in the morning even though the heat is supposed to moderate towards the end of the week.
I saw the survival of the fitest at work this morning. For the past month the Nurse and I have been following the progress of a mother mallard and her 11 ducklings. As of 10 days ago only 4 were left. They had grown to the size that we thought they would make it. While watching the news this morning I heard a lot of loud quacking. I finally found the source with the aid of some binoculars. On the fairway side of the lake I spotted a hawk on the hunt and the mother duck trying to protect her brood. There were only three of the original eleven left and if the hawk had his way that number would be two. The mother was doing her best to fend the hawk off. Fortunately for her the rough mower showed up and scared the hawk off. The last I saw of them the ducks had retreated to the middle of the lake, but were still tyring to call for the lost offspring. Now if only the hawks would go after the geese.
See you on Thursday.

Finally (x2)
After a shaky start, due to the shifting teams, we finally made it off the first tee. We had a large group, including Brad A. Even he raised his eyebrows at 3BB 0f 4, but it is important that everyone stay in the game since the JR/SR Championship is fast approaching and you can't pick up on a bad hole. Anyway the scores were nothing to write home about. Nobody reached double digits. The team captained by LTG (who shot 74) took the honors and most of the loot.
Dr AH and I had our weekly grudge match With the SD and GWH on Thursday since the GWH was on the road Saturday. We finally had a break through and won some of our money back. It could have been much worse. Due to our benevolent nature (and poor play on 18) we let our opponents down easy. We know how fragile their psyches are and didn't want to due major damage that would require weeks of shrink time.
Finally we had another winner in the SOTD. Me!! I only hit for $52.00 but a win is a win. There is still plenty of money left, and several virgins that are hopeful. Look out Hollywood Casino.
Have a great weekend.

PS - Ask the SD if he knows the difference between Las Vegas and Reno.

The Biggest Yet
The lobster dinner last night was the largest to date. I was told that there were 102 reservations. Congrats to the SD for another great job. The staff did a great job dealing with all of us. But, that's always been the norm, but still much appreciated by all of us.
The GWH and I teamed up to take a $ from Silk and KC the other day, but the 4 of us finished just out of the money in the big game. There were 16 rabid golfers who showed up, and believe me it is a major undertaking to get them moving in the right direction. We all seemed to finish at a reasonable hour and got everyone on the road to make cocktail hour after a few adult beverages while discussing the day's round.
I understand that Dr. AH's better half has been given a new moniker by her friends. You can ask her what BB stands for.
The Nurse has always told me I'm a depository for useless information. But where does the GWH get all the time to come up with all the trivia questions? Ask him for his latest contribution to the obscure. And Jill do you really think L. A. is east of Las Vegas? Forget the important news of the day this is what our dinner conversation dealt with.
Looks like another great day for the links. See ya at the training table.

Too Hot!!
That's what we decided after two holes on Saturday. Actually Dr. AH had enough sense not even to tee off, and went home for a muffin and iced coffee. Any way we finished the front nine an then went to lunch. Since there was only three of us we decided to play $1.00 skins. Somehow the GWH made a net par on the first hole and the SD had a chance to tie, but became very twitchy (again) with his normally reliable putter. He three jacked it from four feet. I really think these guys are in cahoots but can't prove it. That turned out to be the only skin of the day, and the GWH went home with a smile on his face.
There were a lot of Old Pal and Presidents Cup matches being played over the weekend. When you see ABE next time ask him if has hit the wrong ball recently.
Read anew golf term over the weekend. Playing a hole "Against The Wind" is known as a Bob Segur.
Temps are coming down this week. We should be getting back to a normal summer for a while. See ya at the training table.

Baked, Broiled. and Poached
That's what I felt like after golf yesterday with the Nurse and Mr/Mrs El Presidenta. And we played early! I can't imagine what the people felt like that teed off at 1PM.
Big couple of days for John B (aka Kennel Club, KC for short). First on Tuesday he wins half of the pot in the SOTD ($67.00). Then yesterday he dunks one on #4 for for his first hole in one at BCC. But he had to share the limelight with Mrs. LTG who made an ace while playing in the group just ahead of KC. What are the odds of that happening again. Anyway the hot and thirsty appreciated the adult beverages.
The heat is forecasted to continue for a few more days and then cool off to the 80's (break out the sweaters). Although right now it is going need to clear up if we are going to reach 80.
Keep cool and see ya at the training table.
CC
PS - Jim E shot 78 on Tuesday to help his team take 2/3 of the money. Ask the SD and TZ if they now understand Front, Back, and Total. They were sure having problems on Tuesday.

Wash Out (Sung To Wipeout)
You could see it building all afternoon. The real question was whether it would hit before or during the annual fireworks bash. Remember a couple of yearts ago when the big storm hit during the dinner hour of the party? What a mess that was. Maybe we got lucky this time. I know this was a big problem for the staff, but at least we didn't have 800 people trying to find shelter frrom the rain and hail. I haven't seen hail like that for quite awhile. Any way let's hope tonight goes better.
Saturday golf was a rare win for the good guys. It really came down to the final putter who normally is pretty reliable, but not this time. I won't mention names but somone became quite twitchy from 2 feet. The $6.00 helped defray prior loses. Next week will be another chapter in this long running epic.
This week looks to be another warm one.

A Narrow Victory(s)
That's what happened over Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was won in a score card playoff by the team captained by TTS. And on Wednesday OTR lead his team to a two stroke victory. I didn't play on Thursday because of the stag, hot weather, and errands to run. So you tell me what happened.
I had a minor scare on Tuesday. I thought the SOTD money disappeared. No, I didn't go to the casino. But the pouch wasn't in it's normal hiding place. I must have had a senior momment and forgot I took it home for an audit. Anyway it is safe and sound. But, I think I'll leavr it home through the holiday weekend.
In case you're wondering there is $125.00 in the pot.
It looks like another big 4th of July party for the club. The last count I heard was north of 650. I'm sure that will grow by Sunday. I hope everyone enjoys the fun. The weather forecast looks
for hot dry days for the near future.
See ya at the club.

You Know It's Summer
You know it's summer when the Jack N' Jill rolls around. A good crowd showed up Sunday for a BCC tradition. You'll have to check the board for the winners since I can't remember who they were. I do know that the Nurse was on the second place team. My team plated hard but couldn't get the ball to fall in the hole. Oh well, someone has to get the participation award.
Saturday golf was more of the same. Dr AH and I can't figure out how the SD only plays well when he gets a stroke. At least his handicap started to move down. There is always next week.
Brad and Jaysen are in California for the club professionals tournament. After the first round Jaysen was tied for 26th and Brad was tied for 177th. The low 70 players make the cut for the final two rounds. Keep your fingers crossed. The low 20 players make it into the PGA Championship.
I know I speak for many of us when I say I'm completely baffled why we have a tennis court in the middle of 7 fairway this coming weekend. The range tee seems more suited for this for a number of reasons. Primarily it wouldn't cause any disruption while providing a level playing surface. Did someone forget this is the busiest week of the club season coming up. I haven't heard one board member who seems to know anything about why we are doing this. It maybe Wimbledon coming up but the last time I checked BCC was a golf club that offered tennis for those who are interested.
It looks like another good week for golf.

Billy Crystal Weather!
Tuesday was hot, hot, hot! But there was a warm breeze that made it tolerable. A good crowd showed up in spite of the heat and we had a nice game. Fortunately I was on the winning team (we all contributed). LTG coined a new term on #17. A 3 for 2 will now be referred to as Men's Warehouse and a 2 for 1 (on a par 3) as a Joe Banks. A 2 for 1 on a par4 is still a Billy. Is anyone confused yet?
Today looks to be more of the same. Keep col and drink Gatorade.

A Long Day
Last Friday the Nurse and I picked up my Dad in Findlay and took him on day trip to the air museum at Wright Patterson AFB. My son had made arrangements for us to take the behind the scences tour of the restoration work they do at the museum. The big project they are working on is the Memphis Belle (WWII B-17). Some of you may remeber this was the play that flew 25(?) missions over Germany. The plane and crew were famous for this because of the high attrition rate of the B-17's due to lack of fighter escort in the early days of the bombing campaign. The tour lasted 2 1/2 hours and was really interesting. The restoration is in the 6th year of a 10 year project. Everything is done by hand because there are no manufacturing records to work from. There are really some talented people working on this. Anyway my Dad was really into the whole thing since he used to fly on a B-26 in the Carribean during the war. After the tour we went through several of the museum exhibits. If you never done this you should. This is a world class museum. To give an example of what you can view - a B-52 suspended fom the cieling. You really can't appreciate that until you see it. From start to finish the trip took about 15 hours (but well worth it).
Saturday golf was impacted by twoo things. First I was tired from Friday and out of kilter as evidence by my play and second the SD was on fire ( probably because of his birthday). The results weren't good. I'll leave it there.
Yesterday was a TDGA rating day. We did a little 9 hole course by Payne, OH. Little did we know we would encounter 3 road closures on the way there. Our GPS was not much help, and we found out many older farmers don't have any interest in golf. None that we asked for directions had ever heard ogf Pleasnt Valley Golf Club. The most interestiong part of the trip was seeing the 50 unit windmill farm that the state has errected. We were told the farmers love it because of the land leases and the low noise levels. I'm sure where it cnnects to the power grid but it was an impressive sight.
Finally, how about the final round of the US Open. It is good to know even the pros can hit a wild shot at the wrong time.
It is going to be hot for the next few days. Keep hydrated on the course.

Another One!
Yes, we have another JR/SR on double secret probation. LTG rolled five fives in two rolls to claim $58.00 and make the probation list. That make four currently branded with the scarlet letter. Not to worry we still have money left and awaiting to be claimed. There are still a couple of virgins among our ranks. They keep trying but are snake bit. I won't mention any names (to protect the unlucky) but you know who you are.
The golf was unremarkable with my team getting pencil whipped in the end. The field was rather light with several members being AWOL. The only one given a pass is TZ who went to Florida to get his ears lowered (a haircut for you from Rio Linda). Who knows where the rest of them are.
It's US Open week and that means the BCC Invitational. The course will be congested for the next few days. Even closed to play on Friday. Check with Gilholey for the road trip plans for Friday.
Stay cool,

Another Heat Wave
The weather was pretty warm over the weekend. In fact yesterday was uncomfortable on the course. That's probably why I didn't play well (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Saturday wasn't as bad and Dr. AH and I only lost one bet to the high handicap duo. It is amazing how they each wake up at the appropriate time to take advantage of the holes they get two strokes on. And believe me there a bunch of them. One would think their handicaps would start to come down but they keep going up. I'd be embarrassed, but some people have no shame when it comes to $2.00.
Kudos to all of you who filled divots on Sunday. The course is really in great shape for the weather we've had. We are getting some much needed rain this AM. I know Eric is watching everything very closely. The greens could go south in a instant if he isn't careful. We all would hate to see that since they have been just about perfect for most of the year. Just think we haven't even officially reached summer yet. Brad says this has been the best Marc through May he has ever seen for play and has been a big plus for the club.
Anyone know what is going on with the three Locust trees on the island in front of the club? They aren't looking too good right now. I sure would hate to lose them. They really do set the drive-up off, and are really beautiful in the fall.
No big winners in the SOTD.
Remember this is the Invitational week. The LR Dr. and I discussed a possible road trip to SCC on Friday. Let's discuss at lunch tomorrow.

A Rare Win
It really was a rare win since I don't normally play on Wednesday. But. I came to the club to practice my short game an decided to stay for lunch. As it turned out I made the field even and got paired up with JJ. Since I was handed the clip board and made the pairings I was accused of stacking the teams. Based on recent performances the smart money should have been on TZ and Twinkle Toes. As it was They lost to us in a score card playoff. I must say JJ and I ham and egged it and had the fortuitous use of gravity to make a couple of critical putts or we would have been a distant second. I did notice a bit of squabbling from the opponents which may have lead to their undoing down the home stretch. Another lost soul showed up. The Used Car Man is back from Florida
Thursday looks like another good day to play. Hope to see you at the training table.

More Of The Same
Based on all the grumbling after yesterday's round we are all in the same boat. No one seems to be able to put together a decent round and score well. I think we are all afflicted with a mid-season slump that would normally occur in July. The greens were slick and the rough was mowed to a reasonable height but no body seemed to be happy with their score. LTG was even seen on the range trying to fix his swing. The rest of us were just resigned to our swing faults. Oh well, life goes on. Another close call in the SOTD, but the LR Dr. kept his winless streak in tack.
The Nurse and I had dinner last (with friends) at the Final Cut at the casino. The meal was very good, but pricey. I'd definitely go back. We saw a number of other friends at the sports bar and on the casino floor. Everyone I've talked to likes the sports bar food and prices. The casino in general was busy, but not packed with people. Definitely not bad for a Tuesday.
Off to run errands and then will head to lunch.

Winners and Losers
The world is full of them. Let's review some of the more recent ones:
This week looks good and I hope to see you at noon.
Have you checked out our bench at the score board? I've heard a lot of positive comments. It is a good spot to sit a while and watch the world go by.
CC
- Dr J. and John B were winners of the Mem /Mem this past weekend. They really played well under some very windy conditions on Sunday.
- The SD for winning half the pot ($70.00) on Saturday. He rolled six sixes. He is now the second person to go on triple secret probation in the last three weeks. This is his third time as winner. He hasn't reached the Dr. J level but is still on probation.
- Dr. AH for winning in the Saturday match without me. I was off playing with LTG in the Mem/Mem. I heard rumbles that maybe I was the mill stone around his neck. But, I think I will get one more chance before being thrown under the bus.
- To all the losers (20,000 plus) at the new casino over the weekend.

Not Your Normal Memorial Holiday
The was was unusually warm this year for the start to the Summer season. Usually we have cold and rain for the holiday weekend. Not this year. It was a scorcher for a change. Actually we need some rain (which we got some yesterday) Golf on Saturday saw the SD come off the IR list and rejoin the GWH for our Saturday match. After a close fought battle they managed to eek out a one bet win. The SD didn't have any negative swing thoughts after his two week layoff and played better than his handicap. He'll probably revert to form soon.
Since the Rabbit Wrangler and Miss Emma came for part of the weekend we didn't play any golf. The WR has grown to the point he can now use regular clubs. He has really improved with the eye hand coordination and was able to hit a fairway metal without any practice. He ripped four balls into the lake from our yard. Now I just have to fill in the rest of his set. It isn't easy to find used left handed clubs. I'll probably just build him a set. He has also turned into a pretty good fisherman. He caught more than anyone else. And, thankfully Miss Emma didn't hook me or herself this time. But she is a year older and starting to get the hang of a lot of things. How quickly they grow.
Nine showed up for golf yesterday. Three walked away with the loot. A couple of close calls with the SOTD, but no winners. Dr. J is still on triple secret probation and only got to roll for practice (he thought it was for real). With a trip to Columbus for the Memorial and taking my Dad to the new casino there won't be any golf until Friday (at TCC). So you guys are on your own.

WOW!!!
Thanks to LTG the Nurse and I went to the soft opening at the Hollywood Casino last night. The pictures that have been published really don't do it justice. I think the place is really cool. We have a first clas ballpark and arena and the casino fits right in. We ran into Twinkle Toes and he said this will be the new Holiday Inn. Didn't have a chance to sample any of the food, but I heard a lot of positive comments in that regard. The Sports Bar looks like a great place for us to meet in the winter for lunch. All in all I think most will be pleased with this addition to the community. And no I didn't lose at black jack and broke even on the slots.
We had a big crowd for golf yesterday. Four foursomes that were pretty eveningly matched (on paper). Scores weren't super spectacular but close enough to make it interesting for some. OTR was our leader, but we dug such a big hole on the front side we weren't a factor. In fact the GWH and I even managed to lose four small bets to JJ and OTR in our own group. It was good to see the LR Dr. back from the furnace in Arizona. Don't know how he played but I saw him looking for a sweater.
This weekend kicks off the summer season. It seems rather anti-climatic since we've been playing for almost two months. Hope everyone has big plans and a great time. The weather guys are saying this will be the warmest Memorial Day holiday in 100 years.
See ya,

PS Check the picture on the bulletin board in the locker room. I'm trying to post it on the blog but having scanning issues.

The Lost Post
The blog post that didn't post last week must have disappeared into a black hole. I can't find any record of it anywhere. So I'm to summarize what was in it.
Last Wednesday (I think) the phone rang and was answered by the Nurse. I heard her exclaim "not again". I immediately knew it was Dr. J calling to say he won the SOTD for the fifth time. I knew we were due for a winner but not Dr. J again. This just isn't right. Anyway I told him the following:
LTG has been appointed legal counsel for the SOTD. He will handle all affidavits and document notarization. Also he would be responsible for any depositions and interrogations of involved parties. He agreed to keep his notary seal and stamp in his locker.
I hope Dr J thinks was all worth it for $59.00

- Before any payouts I wanted signed, notarized affidavits from all witnesses.
- The dice were to be turned over to the Ohio Gaming Commission for inspection. There have been allegations of loading.
- He was also being put on triple secret probation since double secret probation hadn't worked.
- And finally a 1099 would be forth coming. Also backup withholding of 20% would be made from the payout.

Ziemed
That's what happened Sunday in the couples shamble. We all got Ziemed. TZ paid off the Pro Shop and got a new member who could hit it out of sight. His team posted some ridiculously score that even LTG couldn't beat with his length and his stacked team (Twinkle Toes and Bruce V). The rest of us were just chum for the sharks. Aanyway congrats to TZ, and remember the thing about paybacks. One of the best turnouts in a long time.
Saturday was another fun day. LTG made a cameo appearance for the SD who is still IR. It was a tough battle but Dr. AH and I couldn't overcome LTG's length off the tee. We put up a valiant effort but ended up losing two bets. How about the green speed? Just where we all like it. Now we need "a come to Jesus meeting" with the guy setting the pins. There were a few challenges Saturday.
Great weather this week. See ya at the traing table.

Prime Night
The SD pulled off another one of his successful JR/SR gatherings Wednesday with a full dinning room for prime rib dinner. All the important players were seen in attendance dressed in their spring finery (isn't that what the society page writers say?) Enough of that dribble; back to the important stuff.
Thursday was another great day weather wise and 15 rabid golfers showed up to take up the challenge of BCC. The competition was hot and heavy. I'm not really sure who won since I had to make a quick exit. But, I do know it wasn't JJ, Dr. J and myself. We were playing OK until the turn and then it was like someone turned out the lights. We gave 6 shots back and finished DFL. I guess double bogeys really do matter.
Editors note:: I'm not sure what happened to my posting on Wednesday. I'm going to try to resurrect it and re-post it. It was fairly important sinc Dr J was put on triple secret probation for winning the SOTD for the 5th time.
Saturday and the next few days look to be great with soaring temperatures. Hope to see all of you on the course.
CC
PS - With the stag coming up I think that it would be a good time to have a road trip. The GWH has expressed an interest in having us come to Chippewa to see what he has done to the course. I've previewed it and think you'd be impressed. Let's discuss next week.

Now You Can Go For It!
In case you haven't heard part of the big tree at the creek on #14 (by the walking bridge) fell on Friday afternoon. This should make it easier to go for the green for us short hitters. The SD wanted relief on Saturday to no avail. It was still attached and he wasn't entitled to any. If it was broken off completely he might have gotten relief under the loose impediment rule (if he could move the branch/trunk). And, making a stretch to ground under repair he would have been able to go back as far as he wanted (nearest point of relief), but he still had problems clearing it. To say the least it presented an interesting situation. Even Brad said he disliked those kinds of rules questions.
Did you go to Demo Day? Based on my observation a lot of you did. I don't know how many orders were placed but a lot of demoing was going on. My only interest was Taylor Made. I liked everything I tried. Now all I have to is justify buying some new arrows for my quiver. The problem is we all know everything works great on the range, but doesn't once you own it. Maybe they will come up with a short term lease program.
Remember the US Open qualifier on Tuesday. We probably won't be able to play until late.
See ya,

PS - Problems with putting? Talk to Jason. A tip in casual conversation really helped me. TZ said he really is a good teacher and kept it simple.

Yes I Can
Tuesday was one of those days where no one was playing well, and that included yours truly. I don't know what the problem was. It could have been the rough, the slow greens, or any number of things. All I know it wasn't pretty. So I decide to break my rule about not playing on Wednesday and play since I know I can't play that badly two days in row. Well you can throw that theory out. Wednesday wasn't any better than Tuesday. Thankfully we got rained off the course and stopped the agony after 2 holes.
I wasn't sure what to expect yesterday, but decided I might as well attempt golf again. It was a good day to play weather wise and a bunch of us teed it up. It seems the golf gods were back on our side and we all played much better. The greens were much faster, but the rough is still brutal. The best advice about that from the pro shop was "don't get in it". LTG, Uncle Bob and the rest of their crew walked off with the loot.. It was a closely contested competition though. My team probably would have won if we didn't give back three shots on #14. (what a disaster that was).
The US Open qualifier is next Tuesday. I'm not sure how big the field is so I'm guessing we won't play. You may want to come out and see how the big boys do it though, This year looks like it will be much warmer than last year when we all almost got hypothermia.
See ya at the training table.

The Cat Was Away
And the mice played anyway. At least that is what the attendance sheets said along with the wad of cash the LR Dr. gave me from the SOTD. Well I'm back and had the opportunity to catch up with everything before makng it over to the training table. Some things never change. The BS flowed and I contributrd my $5.00 to someone's retirement fund. There was an adjustment from SC grass and greens to NW Ohio. Can't wait for the grass to quit growing and the greens to speed up.
Talked with TTS and am glad to hear he is on the mend. Also saw DW last night and he said they really aren't sure what happened but said he could resume normal activity. Now if the SD gets his wing back in shape things will be getting back to normal. Guys we're starting to resemble our friends in the other room.
We had a good trip to HHI. Even visted the Rabbit Wrangler and his family on the way home. It was his 11th birthday (They do grow up quickly). We stopped overnight in Knoxville. There were a number of participants from a car show staying at our hotel. They put on a mini version of the show in the parking lot and we saw some really neat street rods. The best may have been the 1937 Willys (never seen one before). It was was really well done and had a perfect paint job that was 20 years old. That car was probably the original compact. I'll try to get some pictures on my next post.

Greetings From HI
It is now Wednesday and the middle of our stay in the low country. The weather has been outstanding, the food great, lots of good times with our friends, and the golf...we won't talk about that. As many of you know Mr/Mris SD are staying with us for the week. Unfortunately The SD aggravated an old should/arm injury hauling one of the Mrs suitcases out of the trunk and hasn't been able to do anything but chip and putt. Kinda of put a damper on any competition with the GWH. Slap Shot Ron is also spending a few days in HHI before going on to Savanna to visit family. The three of us played a little skin game (with verification) with the SD being the referee. It turned into a comedy show when anyone of us got to the verification part. The final result was no money changed hands. The next time you see Slap Shot ask him if he needs a break.
Because of the bad wing the SD is heading back early to seek medical treatment. So I think we'll spend the rest of the week by the pool and relaxing in the sun (which is abundant). Maybe a little shopping and definitely a few nights at some our favorite restaurants. And then we head back to Pburg with a stop for the Rabbit Wrangler's 11th b-day. Who knows maybe one more round of golf, but not a priority at this point.

Pity The Cold!
The Nurse and I departed yesterday for our annual trip to Hilton Head. The weather was cool but Sunny. The farther south we drove the warmer it got. We arrived today to temps in the mid 80's and bright blue sky. We later learned that you people stuck in Ohio were suffering trough a cold and dreary day. In fact someone said they saw flurries (that was while we were sitting by the pool having an ice cold brew) As Mr T would say "pity the fools" back home. Just kidding but I'm glad I'm here for the week. Mr/Mrs SD are joining us and we will hook up with Mr/Mrs GWH for some golf and adult beverages. Also understand Slap Shot and Peg will join us for few days before visiting family in Savannah.
Thursday golf saw OTR and the SD pair up in a blind draw to win the treasure. OTR said that was the first time he was a winner.(hard to believe). You guys will have to manage without me for a week so maybe you can convince TTS to come over and be the organizer. He's great at that kind of thing.
There is a small lagoon below our unit that is full of frogs. Noisy frogs! I don't suppose the locals would take kindly to me hunting a few of the little rascals. Also the sea turtles are nesting so we have to be doubly careful about them.
Talk at ya all later.

Rocks In Your Pockets
That's what you needed at times yesterday with strong winds swirling around our favorite links. The gust was so strong on #5 tee yesterday I almost got blown backwards and popped my tee shot straight up and managed to get it to the silver tee. Needless to say I wasn't a factor on that hole. Seven of us managed to make it around without losing too many balls. The wind even affected our putting (and not in a good way). Another five days and I think the greens will be really good.
They are forecasting some overnight showers (which we need) and clearing skies for Thursday afternoon. So it should be a good day to play. Hopefully we'll have a big group so we can get back to playing regular golf. I think the LR Dr. is getting tired of having his skins neutralized by the common folk. He was heard to be grumbling about too many 5 for 3 scores. We must be cutting into his gas money. But it is interesting how someone will shoot a 100 and walk away with two skins.
No winners with the dice. Actually I don't think anyone was close.
Off to play IC today. That usually is a humbling experience. Although I have had moments of brilliance on certain holes, like #18 where I've had more than my share of birdies. It's the other 17 that give me fits.

Another Cold Saturday
We have been lulled into a false sense of Spring/ The last two weekends have had weather pretty normal for mid April. Overcast, cold winds and an occasional shower. Dr AH packed it in after 4 holes. The SD and I soldiered on for a few more holes before retiring to the warmth of the clubhouse. There a few other brave souls out there, but not as many as past weekends. The Belmont Garden Club was busy cleaning up around the patio. I wouldn't want to cross AW when see has her gas hedge trimmer reved up.
A couple of near misses on the SOTD. But, no one walked away with any more money. It was unusual we had two winner this week. The fund was hit hard but we still have $89.00.
Tuesday looks like a golf day (with a sweater). See ya at the training table.

Winners, Winners!!
They seem to come in bunches. SOTD winners that is. First Dr. AH hit for $87 on Tuesday and then Uncle Bob won $45 yesterday. The good news is we still have $83 in the pot.
As for golf we had two big groups play this week. Tuesday saw 11 of us tee it up and hack it around the course. I finally figured out a way to make some extra cash off of the LR Dr. I found if I run an auction for him to be on your team there are a lot of takers. The future bidding will start at $15. There is one other way to neutralize him, and that is to play better than he does. I was with LTG when he shot 74 and got enough help from his friends to win. Hurray for us.
Yesterday we had 15 players for a field skin game (the greens were being aerified). You would think with a group that big there wouldn't be very many skins. Wrong. Can you believe 11 skins? The highlight was Bill N making 2 on #9 for a net 1 (from the fairway bunker no less). I can't ever remember that happening before . We also had a 2 for 1 on #4. That burst OTR's bubble since he made a natural 2. Shows you how bad I've been playing to trend up and get a stroke there.
I don't know what happened on Wednesday since I was off contributing to the profits of the MGM casino in Detroit with my father. I understand we had a few players but don't know any of the gory details other than the phone call I got about the SOTD winner.
Saturday looks like a play day. The weather may be a little cooler though. The greens should be starting to mend, but a little slow.

Cabin Fever (?)
That's about the only thing I can think of that caused such a big turnout yesterday. The weather has been pretty cold until Thursday and I think everyone was tired of being indoors. Fourteen avid JR/SRS showed up with $5.00 in their hands and wanted to tee it up. So after a lot herding we got all these cats moving in the right direction and had a little (very little for some of us) fun on the course. Scores weren't great since -6 won a two ball of four. The rough was a nightmare if you were in it. I think there were at least 4 balls lost in my group alone. Plus the greens were firm and fast and hard to keep it close from the fairway. I'm a little confused on who the big winners were, but I heard OTR say that was the first time he had won anything from this group of thieves.
Today was Friday the 13TH. So I decided to stay hunkered down and not tempt fate by venturing out to the course. But I must it admit it was tempting since the weather really looked inviting. I saw Gihooley, Twinkle Toes, JJ and Shiftlander teeing it up after lunch. Now there is a real crew.
I see Eric has started the Spring aerification program. This is a couple of weeks ahead of schedule, but great if he can it done early. Actually it has been so dry it was hard to put a tee in the ground yesterday. I can't ever remember that happening around here in mid April. Usually the reverse is true. We probably could use a nice shower. By the way the fountain really looks
good on #6.
Oops! Almost forgot to pay the club bill. I'd better go do that before the office closes.

A Cold Wind
That's what was blowing as LTG and I teed it up on Tuesday. We had lunch with the SD who decided it was better to go back to his office rather than brave the chill on the course. In retrospect that was probably the right decision. LTG and I both knew after 5 holes we would have been better off to stay in the clubhouse. But we pressed on only to encounter snow flurries and a stronger wind. To add insult to injury LTG lost two balls in the rough. We returned to the Pro Shop and warmed up before trekking to the clubhouse. While there the UT women showed up and were dressed like the were going on an Artic expedition. They were last seen begging their coach to call off the day. I don't think it worked, but we didn't stick around to find out.
Don't forget the TDGA Rules Seminar at HDCC on Monday. This should be required for all JR/SRS since there are some important rules changes taking effect this year.
I made my first trip around the lake. True to form I found 4 balls (all Pro V 1's). I guess those Owens players can't hit it any straighter than we do since their logo was on 1/2 of them.
Weather is looking better for tomorrow.

Bubba, Bubba, Bubba!
What a great finish to the Masters. I think we can all relate to being in the trees, but very few of us have the ability or the imagination to pull off that gap wedge shot. But give the man credit for having confidence in his ability to try the shot. You just have to love a guy who is self taught and really down to earth. Too bad Lefty couldn't win, but it is pretty tough to overcome two triple bogeys. Any way now we now get ready for the Player's Championship.
The Nurse is on a roll. She won the family NCAA basketball pool (family version) and Saturday took second place in the big Masters pool. She missed tying for first by one shot. I don't know what her secret is but she left me in the dust in both events. I'm going to quit all the analytical BS and start picking who I like. I can't do any worse.
Golf on Saturday was played in great weather, but not profitable. Frick and Frack were up to their old tricks. It is amazing how they never go in the tank at the same time. Dr AH and I haven't mastered that technique yet. I have to say the course was as good as it gets. Just loved the greens. Kudos to Eric and his staff.
The weather forecast for the coming week looks pretty typical for early Spring. Windy, cool, showers, warm spells followed by more of the same. We'll have to play it by ear.

Back To Reality
The weather has returned to normal for April. We were all lulled into thinking we were going to have an early summer and are now disappointed with the cool and sometimes downright cold temperatures. Actually the temperature is OK it's the wind coming out of the North that has been the problem. But on the bright side we are playing golf in April on a course (condition wise) we don't normally see until mid May. I can live with an extra sweater for a while.
Tuesday just saw four hearty souls tee it up. TTS called it after 9 and JJ and I continued on with the SD and took his money in a little skin game. Then yesterday 8 of us showed up for a little 1BB of 2. The LR Dr. was up to his old tickets and waked off with loot with his partner JJ. I think the rest kinda froze-up when the wind picked up. All I know is that my swing was rather creaky starting with 14 (not that we were playing that well). Any way 6 of us went home disappointed. LTG is hitting the cover off the ball. And, the SD is still in love with his new driver.
Another snowbird was back but decided it was better to shop for a new refrigerator rather lose money to a bunch of thieves. I think we need to have an intervention with Gilhooley and see where his head is. Next thing you know he'll come up with other excuses, like water heaters and garage door springs. Also Uncle Bob is back. Glad to see both and hope to get into their pockets soon.
The Masters is off to roaring start. The course must have been playing really hard yesterday based on the scores. It sounds like the winds will pick up today making shooting 72 seem like 66. And what's with Lefty making a 7 on number 10? Sunday should really be fun.
Off to lunch.
