The Big Game Or The Great Blue Heron

The evening before our big match with Dean and Ron (from SOCC) we fortified ourselves with a fine prime rib dinner and a liberal amount of lubrication. The day of the match dawned like all the rest; clear skies and warm temps. As with most games, the 1st tee negotiations determine the outcome. The same was true here or at least that's how the starter stated it. After enticing our opponents with a liberal number of stokes and a confusing bet the match started. Our plan worked to perfection. Back and forth until we went 2 down twice and met Uncle Auto along the way. Being three down at the turn wasn't exactly our plan, but not far off the script.

The back nine saw us make an unexpected recovery and win 5 bets to save the day. Needless to say our worthy opponents were dazed and confused. However, the real story is with the great blue heron. We all know Dean's phobia with birds (aka the rooster); well we now have another chapter for the book. While Dean was preparing to tee off a great blue heron walked right up on the tee about 10 feet from Dean. This so disrupted his concentration he proceeded to put his tee shot in the water 20 yards in front of the tee. And, he was so rattled he never really recovered the rest of the day. One only knows why he is so effected by birds, but I imagine the mere mention of fowl may now create a tailspin (no pun intended).

A quick word about the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes. This is not one of his finer works. Too many gimmicks. While we may not be among the elite golfers we aren't complete chops either. Something is not right when you don't have any place to bail out. This happened way too many times. Ever hit your ball into a palm tree and have 2 come out? Well I can check that off my bucket list.

More later this week. Hope y'all are having fun up north.
