A New Visitor

Springtime always brings a lot of visitors to the lake on #2.  Most I recognize from previous years.  Yesterday I had to dig out the bird book.  Much to my surprise I found we had a Common Loon swimming around.  Checking with one of our local bird experts (Dave B) I learned they are not uncommon to this area, but he hadn't seen one for about ten years at BCC.  Anyway the bird is really cool, and fun to observe.

We also have a number of other ducks migrating through.  They don't normally stay long but rest for a day or so before traveling on. I think we have a pair of nesting Mallards again, and of course we have at least two pair of Canada Geese.  They are really very territorial and nasty to the other geese.  Unfortunately they like our bird feeders and try to camp in our yard.  I wish I knew where their nest was.

Food must be getting scarce for the deer.  The other night we had 11 show up in the yard and empty the bird feeders.  The Nurse wouldn't let me chase them off since one had severe limp.  That was only the second time this year I've seen any in our yard. I hope that herd doesn't get any larger since they can make a mess in the yard.  Where is the GWH when you need him?

Dr AH and I had lunch with the SD yesterday.  He is over the flu and looking forward to lunch tomorrow at the training table.
