Yesterday was the local qualifier for the US Open. This was the 4th year BCC was the host. I had the opportunity to marshal and served as an official on the first hole. Out of 62 players that I observed there were only 2 birdies and 25 pars. I left the course before all the scores were posted (weather delay), but I think there was only the potential for one sub par round. Par was a very good score yesterday with the high winds and slow greens. I spent some time on 17 green/18 tee and I can honestly say there were a lot of grim faces. There were a lot of bogeys recorded and a lot of players shot themselves out of it on the final two holes. Jasen Hansen (our former aassistant) finished one over par, and bogeyed both 17 and 18. He may have been in a playoff for an alternates spot. He had 3 bogeys on the backside. So you know how tough it must have been.
I know our guys called it quits before finishing, and declared the round null and void. The weather doesn't look great until the weekend. I really hope the rain holds off since the TDGA rating team is scheduled to rate BG Country Club on Thursday. Yes, there really is a BGCC. It's a nine hole course located in the city. I played it once 30 years ago. It has one really goofy hole.
